After latest update on Android TV player, I have a problem where some of my before-update working videos are now crashing on black screen. I can summon the info-title with my remote, and jump to a point on video, but the video wont show, only black screen. Subtitle on that particular point shows.
You can add me to the list of user that has the same issue. Tried reinstalling it but no luck. Had to resort to using a Firestick for now.
It looks like the video loads, but then it never plays. If you bring up the play menu it states that the timer is at 0:00 and playing, while to video remains black.
I have 2 sony bravia tvs, both with the same problem, and this fixed it. Current version on playstore is 8.11 something, from December 2020, and it works fine.
For the last 1-2 weeks or whenever this update got pushed out, 90% of the time that I try to play a stream the screen goes black. Usually the app then crashes, or it freezes and I have to force quit it. If I reload it, the issue usually persists.
A FULL restart of the Android TV often fixes the issue, but usually only for 1 session. If I pause what I’m watching, turn off the TV, and turn it back on hours later, the media will never play again, just a black screen.
On the Plex server itself, nothing seems awry. Tatulli reports the stream as being active, but the time is always 0:00.
The console only reports:
[Transcode] Got a transcode session ping without a session GUID (or with an invalid one).
So, basically, Plex is dead on Android TVs at the moment.
What worked for me on Sony Bravia. … Sideload back to 8.11 and set max h.264 to 4.1. Apparently Plex didn’t fix this issue even in 8.13. I can’t say I’m surprised.
I’ll keep the 8.11 apk forever for the next time they decide to break it again.
Don’t forget to turn off Google play auto updates!
