Black screen with white code OR black screen with no art work

I’ve seen various posts that are now closed regarding this issue, and this is driving me nuts! What can I do to resolve this, or help aid in investigation?

Sometimes Plex on my 2016 Samsung TV works fine. Other times when it’s launching it displays black background with lines of code at the top, and is not usable. Rebooting TV 15 times may get this to go away, but then…if I get it to work somehow it will all be black, with out any artwork or colors. Rebooting this may revert to a functional version, or the code, or repeat the black background…

I am a Plex pass member and thinking about the fact I pay for this really makes me upset. It’s been like this for a few months, and I keep hoping it’ll resolve itself. Why am I paying for this again?

I’m very willing to help out here and troubleshoot! BTW, I’ve reinstalled a million times.

Server Version#: 1.15.4.993
Player Version#: 3.98.1

Thanks!

Please someone…this is an awful experience! Months and months of this crap. If I cancel my membership, will that gain any more attention?

Same experience here. Deleted and reinstalled the app, it works but when you exit, it goes back. No solution but a work around. My Samsung TV does remember the apps open. My suggestion is not to exit Plex app. Toggle to TV or any app when needed. Even when you turn off the TV, when turn on again, you can get back on the page/screen where you left on Plex. It somehow works. However, if you shutdown TV and UNPLUG the power, you will find the problem again. You will need to delete and resinstall the Plex app again. So normally when we turn off the TV, we don’t unplug. Good for a while until Plex finds a solution.

We’ve been working with Samsung to find the cause of this issue. We’ve released today 3.98.2 that should hopefully address the problem.

The problem persits.

It’s making us look for different solutions out of Plex

Hi, I managed to get a few months of uninterrupted use (i.e. no white text (js) on black backgroud) when using 3.84.3. (or it was the 3.84.1 rc, not sure anymore) version. This has been the only version that has worked for more than a few days after the initial 3.3.4 (the rollback 3.3.4 did not work).

I noticed the 3.98.1 a while back, decided to try it - after one or two days, white text on black background.
Updated to 3.98.2 - the same, updated to 3.103.1 - the same WTF?

I thought the problems were solved ages ago!

BTW: All automatic updates have been disabled (never touch a…)

Server: Shield PMS 1.14.1.5490
Tizen 2.4

The problem is super inconsistent and sometimes doesn’t show up, and affects only a subset of Tizen 2.4 devices. Samsung is working on it, and I’ve been poking them every couple days for updates but they are still unable to trace it down to the root cause. The Plex app isn’t the only Samsung app affected either, so hopefully they can track it down soon. I’ll provide updates and builds as soon as we hear back from them.

I have this consistently on my 8500 TV. If i open the app, completely close it. open it again, it gives me the black screen with code displaying up top. This only really started recently for me, either 3.98.1 or 3.98.2 version not really sure. i am using 3.98.2 now. uninstalling and reinstalling, re enrolling works until i close the app again repeat.

The problem still persits.

Now sometimes it loads without any art (black screen with only icons).

Updated my Samsung UE55ks7000 TV to v1240 and the Plex app to v3.103.1

So far it has resolved the issue for me with the black screen and java error “window.performance.start” etc

Hopefully it has fixed the annoying issue

Updated it too. The Plex app starts, no error message so far (we will see in time…) but there are no artwork. Just black blank screen and some icons (home, movie, series, and the movie titles). I can play movies, but the “dashboard” is still missing…

Yes the error started with a distorted dashboard black screen and some icons in the top left, after I ran the database optimize it just a java error and nothing else.

I deleted and reinstalled the app, which I have done in the past to sort the issue out, albeit temporarily, hopefully permanently this time.

The error is back again :frowning:

The error is still persists. Black dashboard with a few icons on the top left corner. Same problem if I turn on the “new dashboard preview”.

@sLumpy - this is happening again after being ‘resolved’ for a month or so. Any word on why this is resurfacing, and more importantly, news on an actual fix?

I’m a paying Plex pass member and strongly considering cancelling that as this is just unbelievable nobody can seem to figure this out. Alternatively, if you’re giving up on Samsung app, as it seems the Plex team has, could you send a 4K fire stick to those like myself who rely on using Samsung app for their content? I don’t feel I should have to buy something else as a workaround when literally every other Samsung app works as expected.

Please investigate and prioritize with a higher sense of urgency, having such a long running issue is just inexcusable.

This just started happening to me today on my UN65KU7000 tv. Just tried updating latest PMS, that didn’t work. Reset SmartHub, and that fixed it but 2 hours later it was back again! Maddening!!!
