Brave Browser cannot connect to Plex over LAN

Server Version#:4.30.2
Player Version#:

The latest two versions of Brave Browser cannot connect to a Plex server over wired LAN connection.

The most recent version of Brave, Version 1.10.97 Chromium: 83.0.4103.116 (Official Build) (64-bit](https://brave.com/latest/

The error returned is ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

Chrome, Firefox, and Edge can all connect without problem.

There is no indication of the cause in Plex Media Server.log, /var/log/auth.log, or syslog.

In Developer Tools, the failure occurs while retrieving index.html: This Request Has No Initiator Data (I don’t know what that means, and I’m too lazy to download the source code and look it up).

Can someone please offer suggestions for troubleshooting this?

Do you have any extensions enabled in the browser? If so, try disabling them to see if that helps. If so, you can then re-enable them one at a time to see which breaks it.

If not, you can try the usual steps of clearing the browser’s cache and any site data for your server (or plex.tv).

I use no extensions (even Brave’s “Shields” are disabled for that URL), clearing cache and cookies was the first thing I tried.

It’s also interesting that the Plex interface doesn’t display correctly in Microsoft Edge. More like viewing an XML file than HTML, CSS, and JS. But…Microsoft…

Also tested Safari (from a MacBook, not Hackintosh), vanilla Chromium, and Opera since opening this thread. They work fine from Windows to the Plex server. I may try deleting Brave and reinstalling. Cuz this is weird.

You should maybe use a different browser:

You didn’t read the problem description, yet you have an opinion. I’d love to hear your political and socioeconomic viewpoints!

This is a symptom of Windows 10 having half-way installed an update for the new Windows 10 web browser (replacement for Edge). Apparently it also changes out the asynchronous socket mechanisms and breaks them until the update has completely installed.

[SOLVED]

Maybe another time. Happy for you it is solved.
