Broken update in mycloud ex2ultra

It was running an earlier version so I updated directly to that version. I also tried installing an earlier version 1.23.6 then installed 1.24.5, 1.25.0, then 1.25.1. All versions working for me. Starting with 1.24.5 there is a fairly significant DB migration that needs to take place so you have to wait a few minutes for PMS to be ready. The time will depend on the size of your database.

Hopefully you didn’t try to reboot the NAS or otherwise interrupt this migration. That could corrupt your database and prevent PMS from starting. If that happens, you’ll need to start over or see if you can restore an old database backup through ssh.

Huh. Not sure how that would have happened. Do you know how to get a checksum for the bin file you downloaded? Wondering if you got a bad file.

I never reboot after a Plex-update.
Also didn’t do it with this update. However, I did reboot it yesterday hoping it would do something.

How do you “start over?”.

The WD article mentioned a few posts up has steps on removing all Plex data from the device.

I no longer have that specific file which was used for the initial update.

But downloading it again from the Plex-site and use that one, doesn’t solve it.
Not sure if it is useful, but I can give the checksum of that file.

this, but… probably… is deleting all the info in the libraries?

OK I MADE IT!!!

I will try to explain:

  1. uninstall plex

in this path

i renamed like this, the folders plexmediaserver, and plex_conf
imagen

  1. reinstall plex (now i see it with the logo  )

imagen
(this will generate a new folder)
imagen

  1. turn it off
    imagen

  2. then rename the new folder with “backup”
    imagen
and rename again to plex_conf the plex_conf.2021-12 generated in step 2
    imagen

  3. reactivate plex, and done

so you have it running now?

YES!

And with the very last version

Can you grab the Preferences.xml file from both folder and DM them to me so I can compare?

Sounds good.
I’ll check if I will be able to do the same changes tomorrow.
And then hope that a next update won’t break it again due to manual changes we did.

If this is it, maybe it is possible to have this scripted in a next update file for those not following this topic? I am sure we are not the only users.

Did you only rename back the plex_conf folder? How about the old plexmediaserver folder?

What do you use for these actions?
I am not a huge ssh-wizard, and I believe you are using some graphical interface to enter your device?

no, i forgot doing that, and the installation created a new one

i’m using WinSCP, with sshd user

Ok, I think that’s where the problem is. Something in that plexmediaserver folder did not update correctly.

@andyvandersteen If you haven’t done anything yet, can you try

  • stop PMS
  • rename the plexmediaserver folder
  • reinstall PMS
  • start PMS

See if this works.

Tried these steps, but I don’t have the same result.
It is giving me “connection refused” when entering the config page.

When I also rename the plexmediaserver-folder, the config page loads forever, but the Plex-app is functioning again.

The newly installed plexmediaserver contains far more files then the original plexmediaserver-folder.
As if the update uninstalled files, but did not reinstall the updated files.

The WD is having bad performance now. Both it’s webinterface and browsing through folder on the device.

…but Plex seems to work fine?

So now I have Plex back, but the rest of the device became unusable.
Any idea of how to stop Plex and see if performance restores?
Or “Hopefully you didn’t try to reboot the NAS or otherwise interrupt this migration. That could corrupt your database and prevent PMS from starting” do I need to wait a while?
