I am running PMS on a Synology DS920+. I have configured a manual port of 32400 and I am able to access Plex remotely. However, after sharing my libraries with my brother, he is unable to access the server (even though it shows up on his Home Screen). It simply says “Not Authorized - Can’t Access Server.” I created a Test account and shared it with that account as well - same issue. Not sure why this happening given that I can access my server remotely using my own account. Any suggestions?
Yes, I sent him an invite and he accepted. When I look at Users & Sharing, it no longer says “pending invite” for him. It shows him as if he has access to the library. Same thing when I tried the test account.
I’ll jump on this thread rather than starting another as i have identical setup with Synology DS920+.
I have friend I want to share with and I’ve now setup a new plex account for myself for testing.
I’m on my computer with my main user logged into chrome and my test user logged in via an incognito window.
When I use the test account to access my server it shows the message “Not authorized You do not have access to this server”. If I add the test user as a member of home they can switch to me and everything works, if they switch back to themselves the error message returns.
As the test user if I use the menu Switch User and choose the test user again then in the console I see this message: (I view the console from my real user)
“Auth: authenticating user as guest”
If they are being seen as guest that might explain why they don’t get access, but why is this happening?
Finally when I go to “Users & Sharing” I don’t see the screenshot like trump81, maybe because I only have 1 server it shows me a list of users there, not a list of servers.
I’ve tried doing it via my LG tv and the iPhone App.
So my test user is in my home. If I switch to that user on my LG it shows me this message “Synology is Currently Unavailable”. On my iPhone under “More” I see Synology with the message in red “offline”.
If I switch back to my main account the server is available.
There is something wrong. I’ve now used the VPN in chrome and logged in as my real user and they also aren’t able to access content. “Synology is currently unavailable”.
Thank you so much for taking the time to walk me through this.
It’s all working now.
Just before I followed your instructions I set the firewall on my synology to allow port 32400, I also added port forwarding on my Unifi gateway, Doing those changes allowed me to access my server externally but only on my main account.
Following your instructions fixed everything for other users, whether they were connected to my home or not.
Again thank you for taking the time and hope you have a great weekend.
