Server Version#: 4.47.3
Player Version#: Roku, Nvidia Shield, Chromecast, SmartTVs
This is an issue that has plagued me for awhile now. I love Plex and even paid full price for the Premium as I’ve felt Plex has earned my money with their software.
I’ve finally concluded that streaming certain media formats/files over Chromecast or Plex apps on hardware devices such as Roku TV, Samsung TV, Nvidia TV Shield, etc. has serious buffer issues to the point it craps out or not worth trying.
I’ve tested PMS on Mac, NVidia TV Shield Pro, and Windows and all have the same experience with certain media files.
With the latest PMS on Windows sever with 64GB RAM and 2 Socket/6Core server, I stream over my phone and/or the web browser, I can stream multiple (tested 5) without issue via Direct Play or transcoding, remote or local. This very same server has issues streaming over the problematic devices a single file, direct play or transcoding.
I can also play these very problematic files on the usb ports of the SmartTVs and Roku w/o issue.
I have tested streaming on TVs outside the network and have the same buffering issue while on my mobile/web browser w/o any.
I can assure you it’s not my network as I hardware my PMS servers, TV, and NVidia TV Shield.
I am not sure the issue lies with the PMS unable to stream certain files to the hardware devices or the the devices themselves but there definitely is a problem.
