So I am running the last version of PMS. When I play a movie or tv show on my iPhone it stops probably every 5 minutes and loads and resumes playback to about 30 sec before where it left off at. Sometimes it restarts the entire video. Also another thing is I have a movie playlist(the marvel movies in a certain order) when I play the first one it only plays about 10 min of it then skips to the next one. I’ve never had this issue before the recents couple of updates. Thank you
Are you using your home wifi or outside your home network when this happens?
What bitrate you are trying to stream?
Has your home network and or internet connection recently been used more by other activities?
What is the state of the server resources that plex is running on? CPU and RAM utilization…
Does it only skip on specific moves at specific locations during the movie?
Do these issues happen on a computer that is NOT using wifi and on the same network as the Plex server?
The resuming 30 seconds back seems to indicate that you are loosing connection to the server, the buffer runs dry and you get a disconnect. Since it lost connection early in the buffer it has no idea where you left off so I defaults back to the start of that buffer.
it happens when using both.
it happens when streaming 1.9mbps and .7mbps.
not recently, I have 111/12 download upload mbps.
i5 with 8gb ram.
it usually happens on tv shows, but now its been stopping in the middle of movies and stuck at 33%.
it happens on my iphone and smart tvs. never tried it on a computer.
Playing a few shows with a local hardlined computer will help isolate where the issue is. Basically breaking it down to Plex server, network or a client issue. I am suspecting server or network.
Are your source media files high bitrate? Transcoding a 4k video to a low bitrate stream is going to take a great deal of processor. Have a CPU monitor like windows task manager open while streaming to see what affect you are having.
Also, make sure that the port forwarding is still good. If for any reason plex defaults back to an indirect connection the issues you are having would make sense.
Plex Media Server.log (2.4 MB)
can someone please look at this to see whats going on and any suggestions. I dont have any 4k movies or tv shows. the highest i have is 1080 which it handled no problem before. port forwarding is no issue either
Some suggestions, uncheck Verbose, restart your server and add some tags to your post to get it out of general discussions. You are experiencing probable network issues.
The best way to get the logs is to use a browser and goto https://app.plex.tv/web Settings > Troubleshooting > download logs. This will package up all the server logs that Plex would look at.

here are the logs. Thank you
Looking at ‘Plex Media Server.log’ the issue may be network and NOT Plex related. The following sample errors may indicate this…
Note: Many instances of the following errors are in your logs!
ERROR - Network Service: Error in browser handle read: 258 (The wait operation timed out) socket=####
ERROR - Network Service: Error in advertiser handle read: 258 (The wait operation timed out) socket=####
Things that may be causing it…
- Power saving settings on the server.
- Faulty Ethernet cable
- Faulty router
- Faulty network switch
- Faulty Wifi/AP
- Faulty Network card
Tiebierius is likely correct.
