[BUG] Actors don't show up for movies with "edition" titles

Server Version#: 1.32.6.7468
Player Version#: 4.115.2

When going to Actor views, it shows “Movies & Shows in Media Libraries”. This is really nice information, but it appears to miss movies that have “editions”.

I have both Apocalypse Now and The Blues Brothers, but neither is showing up because I have them marked as editions:

Can confirm for Windows player. Add me as a second–would love to see this fixed. (And thanks for everything, folks–Plex is remarkable!)

Editions are unique to your server and do not have ids that match our online DBs so will not show up on actor pages which only loads stuff that it can find by ID from on our online DB. I will bring it up to folks to see if that can be changed.

That’s great! Thanks for coming back to this.

I can see that editions may have different actors, but in general, they’re just different cuts with the same actor. Otherwise, they’d often be seen as completely separate movies.

As far as I’ve tested, some movies with edition information are able to be displayed on the actor’s page, and this issue may have nothing to do with the existence of edition information. For example, the following is the case. (I use editions to label the source, so the edition for this movie is REMUX)

The issue of the actor’s page not showing some movies in the library has been discussed for a long time in another thread, and no reason has been found. I’m guessing that your issue and this one would be the same issue, not a edition issue.

Here’s another post about the same - Movies & Shows in Media Libraries - Actor View doesn't show Editions - #6 by trinitro

Yes, not a new issue by any means. I would think Plex should match editions back to the base movie.

There are a lot of improvements I’d like to see in editions.

Eg for one big ticket request: Listing each edition of the movie as a choice of what to watch when selecting the movie, rather than listing them as separate entities.

Hopefully, Plex works on them.

I hope that this issue is on the to-do list as I’d like to see it fixed as well. I think that showing the generic movie title for all possible editions is the way to go here. Most movies have the same cast and plotline between the different editions. Besides, I don’t think the metadata agents support different editions anyways.

With this approach, it would be less of an eyesore. I personally use the edition field all the time to denote Criterion releases, 4K remasters, Open Matte, Uncut, Unrated, Uncensored etc. Doesn’t necessarily always mean it’s inherently different from the theatrical release.

Came here to find out whether there are discussions about his already. Glad, in a way, to see it’s not unique to my setup. On the other hand, sad to see that it’s been an ongoing problem. Hope this gets addressed soon.
