[BUG] Clean-Install: Local Server says "You don't have any media servers yet" ?!

Like in this Post from 2013 (!!) https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/91968/error-you-dont-have-any-media-servers-yet
and this post (with https://server-ip:32400/web/#!/setup): https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/105030/there-was-a-problem-saving-your-server-settings-help
i have the same Problem. LOCAL-Server says “You don’t have any media servers yet” !!! HOW?! I mean… HOW ???
Installed by Root-Server-Provider - which is the same Installation as it was, when it was working. Then i tried your absolutely brilliant Backup-Method and that it was the last time i saw Plex running.
After that i tried clean install with 1.7.5 and 1.8.0 (can’t try before that, because you guys don’t have an archive (brilliant)). Tried 5 times(!) everytime (!) with clean(!) Install of Ubuntu 16.04 and(!) 14.04.
EVERYTHING is working here - EMBY (!!), Webmin, NextCloud, JD2, zoneminder, apache2, rclone, VNC, you name it. Just Plex won’t run.
And btw. i did several Plex installs (mostly Debian, but even Mac OS and Windows), so i know how this should usually look like.

Update: Firefox, Chrome, Safari, with and without incognito-mode - same Problem “there was an error saving these settings”

So i expect a near fix or full refund of plexpass  Sad, because emby needs a little bit more time to make plex obsolete, but at least, it’s working. Without 4 Years old Bugs

Update:
hahahahhahahahahahahahahahaha … SAME Problem on my Home-Server (Ubuntu 16.04 ) … okay, i have no clue what you guys did or what you do the whole day. But i’m done here … full refund at Paypal: koenig_m@me.com … thx 4 nothing and cu guys… i’m going to emby

by the way, even your forum is completely f*d up … 500+ posts but my profile says no post? i was snikay in this forum, not snickers. and my acc is already blocked because of your sht the last years. i don’t know how many bugs i already reported … it’s a shame

Nothing ?!?!

Okay,
Come on, send my money back to koenig_m@me.com

Your local network is on a wan network range

See this for local network ranges

For WAN you need to setup an SSH Tunnel to get to the server for first run and all clients need to authenticate

You got an answer in less than 24 hours

okay, so this is what? a security FEATURE ?! thats ridiculous…

this is a complete waste of time … just completely fu*d up sht … i know why i’m done with you guys

to not waste any other time of other people, for god sake, at least add some ■■■■■■ help-article with this errors! SO THAT PEOPLE GETTING HELP, BEFORE HAVE WASTED THEIR TIME

Part of the enhanced security that came in August 2016

brilliant!! BRILLIANT ! …

freaking time wasters

I have already instigated this to expand on the existing notes on servers on other networks

You got an answer in less than 24 hours of posting your logs - even when it is weekend

yeah, and before that, i tried this a whole freaking day, multiple servers, pms-versions and so on !
still, you guys are ridiculous thinking this is a helpful security feature, without further explaining etc. And it is even more ridiculous that you guys not even let your ■■■■■■ security feature check for it’s state to give a meaningful message for the user what to do. And still, the whole feature is just ridiculous
Right now, it just shows how it should NOT be done

That snikay account hasn’t been used since the forum breach. You need to do the password reset on that account if you want to use it. Your snickers account is the one that you’ve been using with the new forum.

I searched around and I think I found another account you may also have used at one time. I’m going to PM you this info, but is it possible you were using this other account instead of your snickers one? Your PMS might be logged in using the snickers account, but if your clients are using this other account, then of course it won’t see your server.

no, has nothing to do with it. I guess after the Forum-Hijack (from which i still get spam-messages all the way) you merged the main-plex-db with the forum-db ? and therefore my plex-acc auto-hijacked the “snickers” from the forum, which was not me  I does not even know the avatar … but the posts i made merged with that acc… and since you banned my snikay acc for bad-language i now can use this one here  funny sh*t

no, that wasn’t the problem.
i finally got a backup to work (different methods such as rclone are too unreliable, so i had to find a reliable method and ended up using a tar-archive. Again, a shame for you guys to not have a backup-function in 7 years… Is it so hard to implement “plex-native-tar-archive-backup-function” ? A really bad faq site is everything you got for your users… it’s a shame …

But since the backup was working, it was indeed your completely bad thought and even worse designed "enhanced security ““FEATURE”” " … Yeah, a great feature to drive your users crazy. No info, no nothing. Just a freaking blank WebUI directly opening plexcloud … no info why there is no local server, just nothing. Even directly forcing the setup via url does not show ANY information why the heck it “can’t safe settings”. Just nothing. Bad… really, really bad … REALLY bad … like, completely fuc*ed up. This is a brilliant way to getting your users angry. And in your FAQ you say to ssh-tunnel into the remote-machine?! thats a complete joke. Not usable and not userfriendly… just a joke. I’m working with REALLY important Software such as Zoneminder, Webmin or FHEM/Openhab , and even they do not have such bullsh**ty security. I do not see ANY reason why PLEX should have such.
But if you still out of your mind, at least add a working error-message showing “you are not on the same network as the server, please do XXXXX” (!!!)
And for god sake, add an freaking simple option to cli on that remote machine with something like plexmediaserver fuc*-that-security to shut it off

But at the end, it doesn’t matter. Plex’s scan rapes my GDrive 24/7 resulting in permanent 24h bans … And then there is Plex-Cloud, which is completely based on GDrive and others … so why isn’t PlexCloud getting API-Bans ?! Right, because it has a smooth scan working … Why the hell is the PMS not working that way? Or at least has no option to do so?!
problems… problems… problems …
i kinda loved plex once … have 10+ users on my pms, which happily paying the apps and got even more to use plex with a pms themselfs … but guys, who has the time to have problems like this all the time?!

To be clear, the forum did not get hijacked. Someone did manage to hack the system and get to the user info, which prompted us to reset all passwords. We did not merge the forum and Plex databases. We did require that the forum username and Plex username match, which then allowed us to use the single-sign-on feature. So if you had a username that matched another Plex account that maybe hadn’t used the forum, then you lost the username and had to pick a new one.

and therefore my plex-acc auto-hijacked the “snickers” from the forum, which was not me  I does not even know the avatar … but the posts i made merged with that acc… and since you banned my snikay acc for bad-language i now can use this one here

The “snikay” account is not banned? As I said, this account hasn’t been used since the forum change over. If this is your account, and you know the email address, you can do a password reset. However, if another user chose the “snikay” username before you, then yes, they got to keep the username and you would have had to choose another username.

But since the backup was working, it was indeed your completely bad thought and even worse designed "enhanced security ““FEATURE”” "

I’m not sure what security feature you are referring to. If you mean that we block claiming your server when you have a public facing IP, then yes. This is to prevent your server from being claimed by some random user that may be on the same subnet as your public IP.

But at the end, it doesn’t matter. Plex’s scan rapes my GDrive 24/7 resulting in permanent 24h bans … And then there is Plex-Cloud, which is completely based on GDrive and others … so why isn’t PlexCloud getting API-Bans ?! Did you mount your GDrive as a local drive and using that for your local PMS? Well, that will be a problem. Plex needs to access your files to perform things like bitrate analysis, thumbnail generation, chapter generation, reading embedded tags, and other file related access. PMS has never supported working with mounted cloud drives. Depending on the software used, some have reported better success than others, but it’s still not a supported feature.

PMS in Plex Cloud works differently which is why many features you can use in your local PMS are not supported, https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/226825168-FAQ-Plex-Cloud.
