[Bug] Error for HDHomeRun "Error refreshing existing device" for a device that was removed years ago

Server Version#: 1.29.2.6364

I recently started getting a bunch of red & yellow in my console logs, I’ve been going through things trying to figure out what I need to fix, & it’s been hard to find answers. I did a database repair using this guide bit it didn’t seem to help.

Since then I’ve been keeping the console open & trying to investigate the errors I see that keep popping up.

I’ve been trying, in vain, to find out what subscription it is having trouble refreshing & finding a provider for, why it’s forwarding ports to 32401, why it keeps trying to access the non-existent drive E:, why it wants metadata from a folder, etc.

BUT then I noticed there were a bunch of errors relating to HDHomeRun. So I removed all devices from my DVR, restarted the server, still was getting HDHomeRun errors just less of them, optimized my database again, restarted again, & still getting them. Then I noticed the numbers on it & compared them to the MAC addresses of my 2 HDHomeRuns & the 3rd one that I removed forever ago, like before COVID started, & discovered the errors I’m getting are half including the end of the MAC for the one that hasn’t been on my system for years & the other half are one with letters instead of numbers & not the letters that can be in MAC addresses.
As it stands I have no HDHomeRuns on my system at the moment, the one that is showing hasn’t ever been connected to the current router that is serving the network, I’ve stopped & started the Plex Server, restarted the computer, but Plex keeps trying to access it. How do I get it to stop? Is it related to the plethora of other errors I wasn’t getting a month ago but am getting tons of now, probably around the same time I started having this issue?

So, since nobody came to help, I eventually found a way to fix this in this thread.

I had tried reconnecting & then removing the tuner, that seemed to work, but then after a day the error came up again, I repeated the process, adding the tuner, then adding 2 of my other tuners, then deleting the old one, then restarting, then deleting one of the others, then restarting, then deleting the whole DVR again, & that seems to have done the trick. Then I discovered that the one with the Non-MAC letters was a virtual HDHomerun I used for like 2 weeks either at the beginning of COVID or possibly before, I’m not sure, but there wasn’t really a way to re-add & remove it like I had the other.

I then started looking for a way to completely remove my TV Tuner & DVR Data completely, even though I had essentially done that through Plex, it seemed that Plex still stored it somewhere that came back to cause trouble years later & I didn’t see a way to do this for the other problem.

Then I found a thread about Deleting All Tuner Data

So I went about getting the non-install version of SQLiteBrowser (32bit), made a backup of the com.plexapp.plugins.library.db database, & found the media_provider_resources table & just deleted all the rows of the table by finding the table in the Browse Data tab, right clicking on the number of each row on the far left, & selecting Delete Record (I’m pretty sure I could have done multiple, but there was only 10 so I figured better safe than sorry since I didn’t know if Ctrl-A. selected anything outside of that table or the table itself or just the data in that table.
I discovered that Plex keeps the data from every tuner you have ever used with no easy way to delete those, & it seemed to have the same tuner twice for a few of them, & there were a couple PCIe & USB tuners I tested to be sure they worked fine before using them in a system I built for my dad. So if the same thing happened later with those…

Now I just wish there was a way to search the SQL Browser to see what the other errors are being caused by.
IncludeExternalMedia & libraryHubsOnly & contentDirectoryID & pinnedContentDirectoryID that QueryParser keeps having a fit about,
ID 80746 that perhaps was merged with another item,
whatever is Missing X-Plex-Container-Size header,
& especially Subscription: Error refreshing sub: Could not find providers for subscription because that is what I see more than anything.

I had old plugins that I tried removing, thinking maybe those were the problem, replaced all the credentials for SubZero Sub agent because it seems to be about subtitles that possibly, but none of that solved that one.

But the HDHomeRun issue is at least solved

Edit: This is marked as the solution because it gives a solution, though not a great one, for the [Bug] this thread is about. If a better solution exists I’d still appreciate hearing it & I’ll switch the solution marker unless I cannot for some reason after a set amount of time or something.

Also not that Comment 3 Is also a solution, & a very helpful one, but to other issues present in the log, not the DVR one.

You have leftover scheduled recordings from when the EPG changed from Rovio back to Gracenote. Search on Rovio, cancel those recordings.

Thank you so much. I was trying so many things but that was something I hadn’t yet. As all my Tuners are gone currently I didn’t even think about it. Once I re-add the tuners I’ll go through & delete all the DVR Scheduled things. Which sucks since most of them are shows that are set to record for one of my family members & I don’t actually pay attention so I’ll have to reset those when the next season starts, but that at least gets me closer to getting rid of my Red spots.
Just curious, do you know why they started appearing within the last month or 2? I mean some of those recordings were set 5 years ago, others within the last year, but I’ve never seen that in my console logs before.

Also to note, it looks like those scheduled recordings are in the media_subscriptions table in the SQL Database, I was looking there & was actually going to try deleting those entries tonight since they were under the word Subscriptions but I didn’t think that was going to be it because there are 13 errors repeating, but 16 recordings scheduled. It does seem appropriate as 3 sounds like a correct amount for newly added ones.

I deleted them through the table & it looks like I’m not seeing those in the console anymore. Thanks a bunch

The messages have been there, Plex may have raised the message level to make them stand out more. I usually don’t use the console but search the actual log files.

Remember to only edit the database with Plex stopped. You could export the ones you want to keep and re-insert them.

When they had everyone switch to the new Plex TV Scanner and added unique media ids things really started to show up. Which reminds me, given the age of your Library you should refresh all metadata at the library level. Bit of a catch 22, if you had bad linking it has the potential to need a fix match but then it gets rid of many other mismatched ids.

That makes sense, If they weren’t red or yellow in the console (Error or Warning) I didn’t pay attention to them. & If they were Warning I mostly let them be if I didn’t know what they were or they didn’t sound really bad. I prefer the console because it colors the messages & only shows things that might need attention. It makes it quick to just see if there was a problem. It also clears every time the server starts or you refresh the window so it makes it easy to find where something is a problem. When I have an issue I leave the window sitting open for a few hours or a day. 1 issue I had awhile back after having it open for a couple days I realized whatever it was I was trying to figure out was happening every day which helped me track down the problem.

I actually Stop Plex, copy the database to my working folder, put a copy in the backup folder with a label, then edit it. Once it’s edited I make sure Plex is still stopped or stop it again, & copy the edited version over the one that’s there. lol. I’m more cautious than necessary I think.

As for reimporting them, I’m not sure how that’d work since wouldn’t that just give me the same problem again? & I cannot add them normally since shows like Big Brother, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, etc are not currently airing.

So I had a horrible time when they switched everything over because 80% or more of my stuff has not-the-default artwork & a number of things have completely custom ones. I actually still have a few libraries that use the old agents because there was just no real way to get it back. Some of the things had TVdb listings from before they went to crap so some of the artwork, especially for foreign things, was no longer there. some I haven’t been able to recover at all. Other things were considered Movies by TMdb but now are not because they are also Episodes of a show. I liked all the things as they looked when they were movies, but cannot match them again

The main libraries were all converted over, but I lost plenty in the process.
Just as an example I have a Christmas Library. In this library I have The Miraculous Christmas Special. It originally wasn’t even considered an episode of the show, but now it is & the Movie version is gone & I couldn’t even find the artwork that it had as a movie anywhere. There’s also the Horrible Histories special Horrible Christmas which is now lost, I found a lot of the info & art for that, but it’s still sitting as Unmatched in my library. A couple of the Doctor Who episodes were movies before but no longer are, I have a Shorts library that has a lot of stuff that lost artwork & a lot that is hard to find.
So doing a big Metadata Refresh has been a big no for me for awhile. The biggest problem is there is so much stuff, from myself, my family members, my roommates, that if something gets messed up I may not know before it’s too late. I completely lost the “Duplo Adventures (1991)” artwork in the move because I didn’t notice & the old artwork doesn’t exist anywhere I can find. now it just has a crappy picture of the VHS box that isn’t even very good because I didn’t realize it was a problem until too late. :angry:

So are you saying that some of the other errors I’m dealing with are the result of that & the metadata refresh would fix them?
If so which ones are those? I assume ones like Match metadata: No item found for ID 80746, perhaps was merged with another item or Unknown metadata type: or Error response for update: 1 (Invalid media type) or even QueryParser: Invalid field 'IncludeExternalMedia' & QueryParser: Invalid field 'libraryHubsOnly' maybe Error parsing content & Error parsing XML: Error parsing file or perhaps Unknown metadata type: folder even.

If I can at least identify what is the result of that I can ignore those & try to fix the rest & just deal with them being there as just a fact of life going forward.

Given all that background I would say a blanket meta data refresh is out of the question and a more methodical approach will be required.
