Bug in Optimized Versions location display

Server Version#: 1.22.3.4392
Plex for Mac Player Version#: 1.30.1.2115-81e1fc3f
Plex Web Player Version: #: 4.55.0

I have a Western Digital Passport Pro and am currently using it as a location to send optimised versions of media so I can have some media on hand when I am travelling. Everything seems to be working well. However I have seen an issue in Plex whilst doing this.

When creating ‘Optimized Versions’ Plex asks where the versions should be stored. I have been selecting for them to be saved to the external drive location and it seems to work. However when I go in to manage the optimised version the location which displays is incorrect. This only seems to affect TV Shows and not Movies.

The actual files seem to end up in the right place, it just isn’t displayed correctly in the interface. I checked on Plex Web and Plex for Mac and both display the same thing. So not sure if this is a server or player issue.

I have attached a server log and some screen shots, the first when I am setting up the Optimized Version and the other when I look at it in the managed section.

Steps to replicate:

  1. Navigate to a TV Show in your library
  2. Click on the ‘More/Three Dot’ menu.
  3. Choose Optimize
  4. Choose ‘Version storage location’ that isn’t ‘In folders with original items’
  5. Click ‘Optimize’
  6. Navigate to Settings → Manage → Optimized Versions
  7. Click ‘edit’ button on the show you just chose to optimize.
  8. Notice the setting on ‘Version storage location’

Is it just in the display? When you look at the video info, does it show the correct location there.

I’m on Windows and this is showing correctly for me in all locations using drive letters.

Just in the display. The files are saved in the right place and if I check Media Info on the item in Plex it shows the original file location and also the external drive location.

Not sure what’s going on. Your logs don’t have debug logging enabled. Can you enable that, then optimize a new file and get me a new log?

Sorry, I thought I had enabled it last time. See below for a new file. I enabled debugging and then restarted PMS. I told it to optimise Agent Carter. I did a quick search in the logs and found this:

edit Just realised I had been turning on debug logging in the client and not on the server. The below logs should have debugging on:

Were you moving your files around? It looks like the optimizer worked fine, but PMS is seeing some old data related to optimized versions being on that /tv folder.

Nope not moving anything around. The optimizer works fine, everything goes to where I want it, just the display in the UI doesn’t look right.

Something is definitely not working right though. Today I wanted to optimise more more movies. If I try and optimise a group of files I don’t get any options for folder location apart from with the original files. If I optimise a single file I get a few options based on locations in the library. I presume the two issues are linked in some way.

Check the screen recording below. This is in the Mac client, but works the same on the web version too.
