Why is selecting the Optimized "Version storage location" for an entire Library is no longer supported -> Library level optimization not possible!

Server Version#: 1.26.0.5715
Player Version#:

I don’t know which version of Plex made this change ( I do regular updates ), but there is a change for sure. My previous version was 1.25. LATEST… and it seemed to have the same issue.

On my current server I still have previously defined “Optimized Version” jobs that still work and cover an entire Library. These jobs are producing “Mobile Version” and keeping them in a separate folder defined at the Library Level.

The problem is visible in attempting to define a new Library and do the same setup, I can no longer do that. The UI is not allowing me to select the folder in which I want the Optimized version to be stored. I tried this on a docker-version of plex, and on synology with the latest versions… same issue.

Is is clearly a UI issue on Library level only, and not the Optimization job or its capabilities.

While you can still create Optimized versions from inside a Library by with single or multi-select items with the ability to select the Storage location, this required constant user interaction to chose what to optimized or not, instead of setup-once and forget at Library level.

I have the same problem, this has been broken for a few months now. I store my optimized versions on a different drive pool and now I have to select movies one by one to make it work.

A long discussion on this issue was covered under another topic, in summary we know what version of Plex has the bug.

I am responding here to provide feedback.

This problem (not having alternate location selection available) has been confirmed and is on the Engineering schedule.
