[Bug]: IOS disconnects and/or shows spinning cursor when using HTPC as playback device

Server Version#: 1.29.0.6244-819d3678c on Windows 10 x64
Player Version#: 1.26.1.3276-53fefb7d on Windows 10 x64
iOS Plex Version#: 8.9 on iOS 16

iOS disconnects from HTPC and halts playback

  1. On iOS, select content and begin playback
  2. Tap “Connect to Device,” and select HTPC
  3. Tap “Yes” to confirm connection

Expected result: playback continues on HTPC

Actual result: Usually, iOS disconnects from HPTC and playback stops. Afterward, during repeat attempts to connect, HTPC sometimes does not show up as a playback device. And at other times, playback actually does start on the HTPC, but iOS just shows a spinning cursor and no progress.

Additional information: If I connect to the HPTC, THEN begin playback, results are mixed. Sometimes, playback begins, but only the spinning cursor shows on iOS (and no track progress). At other times, iOS shows the spinning cursor, then just disconnects from HTPC and stops playback.

Using iOS to select and play music to PMP worked flawlessly until about 3 weeks ago. Then, iOS stopped reliably finding PMP as a playback device; so I switched to HTPC, which has NEVER worked reliably or predictably for HTPC playback.

Hi I can’t replicate this using Plex HTPC on a Mac. Maybe someone with Win 10 can try. If you want to enable debug mode and grab player and server logs after a reboot and demonstrating the problem, that would help.

See if downgrading to 1.28.2 stable fixes your issue.
1.29.0 was a very transitional beta.
