[BUG] Notification on Shield TV home screen about Plex content still playing after play is complete

I reported it more than a year ago but since then it has just been ignored.

Just to add on this:

Seems to be all the time after each watch now.

Before it use to be just on occasion.

Do you need any logs to help with this bug?

I get the same thing, but it only started after every show a couple of months ago, Before then it was intermittent but not very frequent.

I really wish this bug would be fixed

Me too. They seem to find other really obscure bugs, but no one has even acknowledged this one.

Same issue. Doesn’t seem to be a problem, but is very annoying.

This is happening all the time for me now in update 8.15.0.23698 beta android tv version. @BigWheel wondering if you can assist for this bug.

I’ll take a look. I have not seen it on mine. Are these things that have finished on their own or like it was like 95% done and you hit back or home button?

For me, it happens only when I let something play to the end - i.e., finished on its own.

For me it is the same. When the tv show comes to an end. Or when a movie reaches the end credits. I had it happen even for viewing trailers or movies.

I’m experiencing the same issue. The notification is displayed after playing TV episodes to the end. If I dismiss the notification, it reappears. Very annoying.

The notification is displayed even when notifications are disabled for the Plex app. So, this setting is not respected. How is this possible?

I don’t know what version it will be released in but it looking at bug report look like they figured out the cause earlier this week.

That’s good news - thanks! I’m curious about how best to report bugs such as this one. I reported this a year ago, and despite others adding their own reports of the same problem, there was no response from anyone at Plex until someone copied you on their post just recently. I suspect that’s not how you’d prefer we do things on a regular basis, but what are we to do when there is never any acknowledgement of a bug report? Would appreciate your thoughts.

Plex for Android 8.16.0.24021-beta was released today. One item in the list of fixes is ā€œ[TV] Player: don’t show player notification on OS home screen when existing from Post Play.ā€ (I assume ā€˜existing’ is a typo and was meant to say ā€˜exiting’)

After installing the new release I played a movie through to the end (i.e., to the post play screen) and I did not get a notification on the Shield home screen that Plex was still playing something. While the fix description specifically mentions ā€˜TV,’ it seems to have fixed the problem for movies. I will test it with a TV show tomorrow to verify the problem has been fixed everywhere. :slightly_smiling_face:

The reference to [TV] is about Android TV vs Android Mobile. Glad to hear the issue has been resolved for you though!

Ah, didn’t realize that. Verified it’s working for TV shows as well. Thanks for fixing this long-time problem!!

Now that this is verified fixed, I’d like your thoughts on the question I asked earlier, about how best to report bugs like this and get some acknowledgement. Thanks.

Raising them here is fine, and we do track issues like this internally. Just an issue like this was a bit lower down the priority list, was all

Glad to hear that this issue is resolved. I’m looking forward to this update being available for everyone to check.

Anyone can opt-in to the beta via Google Play (or leave it at any time).
