[BUG] Photos fail to display on LG WebOS app – “insecure connection” error

Description
The Plex app on LG WebOS (my model: LG Smart TV) fails to display photos with the error: “An error occurred displaying the current photo. This may be due to an insecure connection to the server.”

Thumbnails load correctly, but opening any photo (JPEG or RAW) triggers the error. Music and video playback work fine.

Environment

  • Plex Media Server: latest version, running on macOS (iMac)
  • Plex Client: LG WebOS Smart TV app
  • Network: local network (same router)
  • Server connection: Wi-Fi

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open Plex app on LG WebOS TV
  2. Navigate to Photos library
  3. Click on any photo (JPEG or RAW)
  4. Error message appears immediately

Expected behavior
Photos should display normally, as they do on all other Plex clients (browser, mobile, etc.)

Root cause (identified by community)
As discussed in this forum (threads from June 2025 onwards), the LG WebOS Plex app appears to load photos exclusively over HTTPS, while audio and video can be served over HTTP as well. When the server’s SSL certificate cannot be verified by the TV, photos fail to load entirely.

This is a known and recurring issue reported by multiple users since at least June 2025, with no official fix released yet. I’d like to ask for an update on whether this is being investigated and when a fix might be expected.

Thank you.
