[BUG] Playing a DVR recording while it is still recording no longer works

Server Version#: 1.15.4.919-8e2884e4b-x86
Player Version#: Most recent as of date of this post on NVidia Shield or Roku.

Repro Steps: Start recording a live program. After 20 minutes or so, go to Live TV section in the Player, select the program and select “play from beginning.” The program will actually play from the current live point forward only. After the program finishes, it can be played normally from the Recordings section.

Uninstalling server 1.15.4.919 and installing 1.15.1.710 fixed the problem. The problem also occurred for me with 1.15.4.876. I did not install all intermediate versions, and thus can’t tell you exactly in which version the problem was introduced.

Troubleshooting: Reinstalled client software. Tried on different client platforms.

Suggested priority: 1. As soon as the NBA playoffs start getting broadcast widely, I’m going to be very sad if I can’t start watching the game a half hour late to avoid commercials. At this point, my wife is pretty annoyed because she can’t watch her morning shows a half hour late.

NOTE: This is my first post and bug report. Tell me if I’m doing anything wrong and what I could do better. You won’t hurt my feelings. Well, at least I’ll get over it.

It looks like an update to the Plex client software has broken this for all server versions. So THERE IS NO WORKAROUND FOR THIS PROBLEM ANYMORE.

I would greatly appreciate acknowledgment of this issue. Should I open a support ticket?

Sorry. Plex does not have an official support ticket system inplace.
Your very best option is to have a dev reproduce the issue AND also see it being major enough to fix urgently.

I’m able to successfully start a recording from the beginning that is in process, or start it live. I’m on server 1.16.2.1297 on Linux and Roku client 6.3.11.5782.

One question: Is your Live TV showing that it is Direct Play when you look at it in the Plex web client? I can’t verify it right now, but in the past I noticed that Direct Play (at least on the Roku) causes a problem with FF/RW and resume.

If you see in the Plex web that you are Direct Play then try going into your Plex Roku app video settings and set Direct Play to Auto or Disabled and see if you can get it to Direct Stream and see if that helps.

Thanks for the good suggestion, hokierulz. However, it appears that Plex dev has heard my prayers and as of version 1.16.5.1554 (or earlier), they have fixed the problem.

BTW, my Direct Play was Auto, and I will set it to disabled if I see the issue again.
