BUG: Plex app removed and now missing from Samsung Apps on Samsung Smart Hub

Hi, I have a Samsung Smart TV.

Model: UE40ES5500
Firmware: T-MST10PDEUC-2007.0

Samsung Smart Hub version 4.6261-5.0 is installed.

I have been using the Plex app on this TV for years with no issues.

At some point during the past couple of weeks however the Plex app has been spontaneously uninstalled, presumably during one of the automatic Smart Hub updates.

So I went to re-install it today but it is not available for selection in Samsung Smart Apps any longer. I have re-installed Smart Hub but no good, it’s not there.

While there is a good spread of apps still available for selection in Samsung Smart apps I did pick another couple of apps at random from this list (https://www.digitbin.com/samsung-smart-tv-apps/) also such as ā€˜Ginx TV’ and ā€˜Redbull TV’ but these are not available either.

Does anybody know what might be going on, how I can re-install the Plex app?

Okay, so after I posted this I checked again and it was in the list and I’ve re-installed it.

I’m not crazy: it wasn’t there earlier, I checked up and down several times.

I have exactly the same problem. I have reinstalled the Smart Hub, but Plex has completely disappeared. It was working perfectly until very recently.
Could someone offer me some guidance, please.

Simple question WHY?

They have changed the Roku to be useless, now they want to get rid of or render the Samsung app also useless or even gone?

My guess is legal problem or Plex simply has a death wish.

How about an explanation from Plex?

Same here I used the app on my Samsung last night and then. Today it missing and will not even show up on Samsung app ? I’ve not removed it so confused as to what happing as. No information anywhere

Just now I turned on my TV and it got a new smarthub update. After it has finished and I started it smarthub automatically removed the plex app and it isn’t in the store at the moment.

I’ll give it a try later but I can confirm the behaviour Orson100 posted in his inital post.

Can confirm happened to me today. Let’s hope it’s back later else I’ll be in contact with Samsung. The only reason I bought the tv was for its reliability with the plex app

Hi all, I had the same today. When I searched in the store it did not find Plex, but it was still in the favourite section! I installed and linked it. It worked and then when I exited it said it had an update and it said uninstalling Plex.

I hope the app is not removed I have been using Plex for years on it and only a few weeks ago decided to upgrade to a Plex pass. If I can’t use it on the TV then it’s pointless.

Today the Plex app was missing on two Samsung ES series TVs. I was able to reinstall Plex from Samsung app store but on each start of the Smart Hub I was prompted for a Smart Hub update. After confirming the update the Plex app was removed again.
I traced the internet traffic of my TV and ended up in blocking infolink.pavv.co.kr in my router.
Since this change my Smart Hub does not prompt me for an update anymore and the Plex app is still running.

I would really appreciate any official news on this from Orca or team.

Just adding to the list of users who have been using the app fine for years. TV auto updated just now and now the Plex app has gone and I have no way of getting it back!

Using DLNA as a temporary stop gap but it is far insuperior and by no means a permanent solution!

My complaint is that Plex never responds to these post to tell us what and why!

When on App Store last night and it was back managed to download and seem to be all working now very strange tho no message as to what happened if it was Samsung issue or Plex app issue

Mine also disappeared and when I used the search apps for ā€œplexā€ it wasn’t there but on manually scrolling through the video section of the store plex was there and is now installed and working again.

It’s a Samsung issue, and they claim they fixed it :wink:

Just gone to use it and it vanished again in less that 24hrs can’t even get on App Store now ;(

Add another person whose lost Plex (as well as the Amazon app)

I have the all back and it’s all working!

Until yesterday, plex was working good in Samsung. Mkv container was accept, today all samsung devices that I have in my server is transcoding mkv container to mp4. I dont understand, its a bug?

I have had some discussions with Samsung and it turns out my TV’s main software (not the Smart Hub) was out of date and hadn’t updated automatically. Had to do the firmware update on USB. Then the Smart Hub updated and did not remove Plex and Prime Video.

Tried a Smart Hub reset and app reinstall and it still won’t connect. The app won’t find or connect to my Plex Media Server. but the media server is working. I can use and read it on the PC in question. It will also detect via other third-party devices.

The issue is particular to the Plex app on the Samsung TV itself. The last time my Plex app was updated was in August 2018. Just wondering whether Plex is planning another update to this app.
