Plex on my Samsung TV (2017, QLED) stopped working

Player Version#: 5.10.0, 22/04/2021 on Samsung TV 2017 QLED

Last Friday night (German time) Plex on my Samsung TV stopped working.

Trying to start it results into black screen. No Plex logo loading.

After deinstalling and new install (with PIN) it worked again until leaving the app at Samsung TV. After this its the same. Black screen.

Plex app on Android mobile phone is still working.

Plex server is running on Win 10 64-bit.

TV and PC are connected by network cable.

Have tried also by restarting TV and restarting PC. No change.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

By the way: Plex on my Samsung does not load, but now - for the first time - it is showing this:


If there is a way to stop Plex showing this on TV, please let me know, as it is showing posters that are not appropriate for our little children.

This version is old - update is needed.
I would first try to just turn ON the tv and let it sit for 15 min or untill it turns itself off.

If that don’t work I would
Try resetting Samsung Smart hub, if that dosen’t work a factory reset may be your last resort…

There is under settings>experience>smart hub once you get the app going…

First big thanks for your time and kind support.

Our Samsung TV (2017 model - bought 2018) stopped updating around April this year (Final OS update was December 2020). Somebody from a big TV station in Germany told me that Samsung stops supporting TVs after around 4 years, but not the official way. They do not continue to approve and release further updates of apps and let TVs die by time. TV station had created several updates for 2017 models, but none of them where approved by Samsung…

Have resetted Samsung Smart hub and installed/configured everything new.

Now testing to let it ON and wait until it turns off itself. In config it is a fixed time of 4 hours until this happens.

For now it is interesting to say that the Plex app is working and also leaving the app and calling it again is working. The issue seems to be in turning power off and turning it on (controlled by Alexa). Why this first occurred in the night from last Friday to Saturday and never before is very strange to me…

I will post further results here.

Maybe I was a little unclear, but I meant to just turn on the TV and let it sit in the Tv home menu without playing anything - It should turn off way before 4 hours

Given that you are now running the correct Plex app version and you were using and outdated one before I think you are barking up the wrong tree there…

Things are different now, because I always checked this (latest screenshot):


Samsung TV settings are showing Version 5.10.0 as latest installed version.

There seems to be an issue at Samsung… because Plex app is showing on TV:

Is this the latest version?

However I think Plex is working perfectly and reasons are caused by Samsung TV.
