BUG : Plex times out too fast when trying to play media

Server Version#: 1.32.7.7571
Player Version#: NA

I’m running into a problem where Plex times out too quickly when it performs maintenance activities or tries to play a stream - this is because my media is on a NAS which requires 15 or so sec to spin up when you try to access it.

After a few sec, Plex will time out. This is preventing maintenance tasks from being performed. I found this to be the root cause of my library not updating.

When trying to play media, it’ll time out then succeed if I try again, but I can’t do that with the maintenance tasks.

This used to work - Plex used to wait until the NAS spun up, but I can’t put my finger on exactly which version started the behavior where it would time out.

Is there any way to increase the period before plex times out?

I attached my log and you can see examples of these timeouts all over the place. For example:

Oct 22, 2023 04:53:56.539 [1208] DEBUG - handleStreamRead code 121: The semaphore timeout period has expired

Plex Media Server Logs_2023-10-22_15-54-29.zip (6.5 MB)

Hopefully, a Plex support person sees this. I can find no other way to contact anyone.

Unfortunately, this is completely preventing the scheduled maintenance from working which is turning out to be problematic.

This wasn’t a problem before, but I’m not sure if this started with a newer version of Plex or if it is a Plex x64 issue as I was using Plex x32 before I built the new server.

Some things you can’t fix, and in this case it’s my stupidity! After digging in the settings, I found that the daily library update was disabled. Not sure how that happened, but turning it back on fixed the maintenance issue for me. Guess the stream errors were just a red herring.
