** [bug report megathread] **

What is the point of these forums if there is not a bug reporting thread for the endless bugs that came with the new version?
The developers don’t want to hear it I guess?
I guess I’ll start it out

I can only cast individual items from my phone. If I cast to my TV and then hit shuffle play, it only plays on my phone and ignores casting completely

Please fix shuffle casting on Android

Look if we’re really going to do this…

Plex Client Version:
Plex Client OS:
Plex Server Version:
Plex Server OS:

(Also, whatever you’re trying to cast to)

Steps to reproduce:
Expected Result:
Actual Result:

Nice to have: the logs from when you were trying to do this thing.

Because if this is going to be a mega thread or whatever, we probably need to be a bit more verbose than this.

We (including myself) can all do a bit better with this.

How about Plex does better at this? Have a better way of reporting bugs. How about a bug report option within Plex that automatically fills out the required information, has fields for required information and fields for optional information? You could even include options to include certain logs. Go further, have a list of all your reported bugs and links to the bug tracking so you can see what progress has been made to resolving it??

I think the issue that will hold this “megathread” back is that it’s not going to be any different than the threads created for the new experience apps.

People are people and are going to dump here just like they (some) do everywhere. The longer the thread becomes, the less likely people are going to read it to find if their bug/issue has already been posted, l etc.

I totally believe this thread is well intentioned, I didn’t think it will achieve what you are hoping.

My personal benefits is the every issue gets reported in a new thread.

The issue gets confirmed, diagnosed and eventually resolved. Then the thread becomes part of the archive.

The world moves on.

But I will be happy to admit I’m wrong about this. :crossed_fingers:

Maybe you can provide some insight into this. I’m having serious problems with casting on iOS to the point where it’s unusable as a feature and driving me to use VLC for casting and, as I get used to it, more of my playback on iOS.

So here’s what I’m wondering: Casting was working in the past, on an older version. Then they “fixed” almost everything, including a new UI. But if casting is such a problem now, that indicates a massive rewrite of that function from before, and, apparently, poor to no testing on that feature. Why was casting rewritten and why can’t they use or adapt their old casting libraries to work now?

I can see this kind of mess-up on an open source program where it’s just offered for use, but Plex is turning into an income producing business (if it hasn’t been for a good while, it is now) and to make this big a mistake (apparently on iOS and Android) is seriously unprofessional. It discourages users and I would be surprised if it did NOT impact the Plex income stream.

Okay, that explains it. So, basically, this is probably one of many sections of code in Plex that got what amounted to a full rewrite when combining code from different apps so they’d no longer have to write special code for each OS. So instead of using the old, working iOS or Android code, they have something new that works for both that’s going to need a fair amount of tweaking to get it to work on all platforms.

Yeah, it’s an example of what I call “Developer blinds,” like the blinds on horses so they look only ahead - “This is what works for us. Oh? Users? Hunh? Well, they’ll just have to get used to this. It won’t be a big deal.”

I’m not even thinking greed. Just that when you have software you charge for (like the monthly fee for guides and such on Plex), or when you are moving to a model that is to provide income (even if it’s to pay the developers for their time), then the service/software provided should be at a higher level - like not releasing a version where features like this basically don’t work.
