Luckily the majority of the multipart movies I have are in MKV file format. So I downloaded the MKVtoolnix app and combined the files into one large file.

Some of my movies are not MKV. I just re-ripped them and combined them.

I strongly recommend that approach.

Note that MKVToolNix can join many non-MKV source file types, too, so don’t let that be an obstacle.

Not sure if combining and converting with MKVtoolnix would degrade quality, I have files ripped from Blue- Ray.

It does not. It doesn’t perform any re-encoding of the media, just copies/remuxes the streams into a new container.
