[bug]subtitles don't show initially on android devices when playing HDR content

When playing 4k HDR media, the subtitles don’t show initially even if selected.
To have the subtitles show, during playback i have to change to none/other language then back to the language i want, on 1080p content it’s fine.
Subtitles are SRT external files.
Seems to be android app related (Shield TV and Android Phone).
On the windows plex app it doesn’t happen.
On XPlay android app it doesn’t happen.
media is played back with direct play.
This has been happening on several Nvidia Shields for the past few weeks.

UPDATE: if i just click play the issue happens, if i do play version and select the HDR version it shows the subtitles(tested on Samsung S22+ with both plex main version and beta version)

Yes, I had this issue last night. It seems to be an issue with movies/shows with multiple versions.

I checked my Android TV logs and it indicated that no subtitle was selected despite the playback info indicating otherwise. It was a 4k DoVi episode that has a 1080p version as well. Changing during playback does work.

After further tests, it seems to only be my videos with 4k HEVC / 1080p h264 versions that have this issue.

I can also confirm that using ‘Play Version’ and selecting the 4k version does display the subtitles, so something’s up with default playback.

I tested with Android TV version 8.6.3 & 8.7.0, PMS version 1.28.1.6104, Shield TV Pro 2019 version 8.2.3

Also, all my subtitles are internal, so it’s not just an external sub issue.

I suspect this issue started with v8.6.0 based on the changelog, I might test that theory this weekend if I get a chance.

Same problem (internal srt) with multible version @ nvidia shield.
