BUG: "Trending" appearing on HOME with "Discover" Disabled

With the most recent updates to Plex Web and Plex Desktop…

Discover Disabled:

It’s appearing on Mananged User accounts too. This is not what I want my kids to see!

Absolutely disgusting :frowning: They even have stuff in the activity feed of stuff I’ve watched and I’ve all this stuff disabled with watched state disabled to plex.

THIS BETTER BE A MISTAKE !!!

Check here to make sure the box is unchecked:

App versions please. The Home pivots should not be showing up when Discover is disabled.

Confirming the issue. Once a user signs in, admin or managed users, these pivots are showing up. If the user refreshes the page, these pivots go away. This is a bug. Thank you for reporting!

Hi Atomatth,

Thanks for responding. I tested refreshing:

Refreshing (F5) in Plex for Windows does not remove the pivots.

Refreshing in Plex for Web does remove the pivots.
Closing browser and reopening Plex Web re-displays the pivots again.

Yes that is disabled. I have two items in the activity, dating back to 2022. I guess they mined this data without my consent outside of the normal watch sync state mining they do. I’ll manually delete these.

They do not go away.

Well, thanks for confirming that.

Yeah, I’m seeing that now. I was sharing my initial observations. Regardless, this is being looked at and will be resolved.

Is this a recent discovery on your end? I’m not sure how often you check your Profile to know when these activities may have shown up. You mentioned that you’ll delete these entries. I’ll see what I can find out about how this could have happened.

I don’t use any of the social plex features. I pretty much disable them as quickly as I see you folks enable something. The activity feed is something I would never go look at, actually I don’t even know how to open it as I’ve all the discover stuff disabled so seeing something in there today when this new bar showed up shocked me.

They were two items from 2022, one was a movie and one a show. I’ve never seen these show up anywhere within social plex before today. I removed them today if your back-end team has some way to reverse engineer how/when these got added.

Hey @Atomatth I have reported a similar issue here with manager accounts.

I thought this was already logged and under consideration. Would be pretty disappointed if it isn’t.

That is a different issue. Thank you for the bump.

Oh, man… thank you for taking care… how often do I have to stumble upon things that I disabled and that are not on my server?

How long can it take to roll back to a Plex Web version not showing this?
I mean, I am using app.plex.tv after reporting it (different thread) and still have to observe this. And my managed users ask me what this is.

Please turn it off by rolling back, then start updating your tools.

was just about to post the same about these “disabled” features being pushed on us.
when will plex realise that we don’t want plex to be a “social media” platform, we want it to be a local media content delivery system - that’s why we disable all these new “features” on OUR plex server.

Depressing… One does have to wonder what sort of testing they do before pushing this stuff out.

A refresh might make it go away while you are on that screen, but as soon as you navigate away and then back to home it comes right back…

I would like a feature that lets users enable or disable the Discover options on the homepage. While I do use the Discover feature, I prefer not to see it on the homepage. If I need it, I’ll go to Discover myself. I don’t want these options on the homepage. Even if they must be there, I don’t want “Find Friends” and “My Profile” on the homepage because they don’t mean much to me. So, I hope users can choose which options they want to display on the homepage.

I’d like to customize the Home tabs too, but to be honest here, I didn’t even know I had those tabs at the top of my Home.

  • The “Trending” section just seems to be a sub-section of the “Discover” menu, so it feels superfluous.
  • The “Activity” feed scares/annoys the be-jesus out of me, but nobody can see it.
  • “Find Friends” is worthless, as I am NOT going to be looking for random strangers to share my server.
  • “My Profile” looks like it’s a quick link to the same Profile in the upper right account menu, so what the f— is the point?

Overall, it just looks like a collection of stuff from all over the account. Very odd things to shove into our faces with things I can already get to with a click or two, and CERTAINLY don’t need quick access to.

Version 4.132.3 just dropped and looks to have fixed this bug. I no longer have these tabs. Thanks.

Yes, I can confirm the new versions of Plex Web and Plex for Windows have fix this issue.

Thanks to @Atomatth and the rest of the team for getting a fix out so quickly!

has it “fixed” it, or just hidden them so we can’t see them but they are still “active” in the background.

the fact that we have those “features” disabled yet a code “bug” made the buttons and data visible suggests that maybe disabling stuff isn’t doing what we expect it to do.
