I am setting up my LiveTv and DVR again on my plex server for some of my family to use. Everything works, but I am trying to restrict the DVR location and cant quite see how to do this. I added a 1TB hard drive separate from my 12TB of long term storage for my movie/music/Udemy/Workouts/TV Show series… collection. I have created a directory of /media/DVR and mounted the new drive in that directory. I can select that drive when I record live TV, but I want to force that drive to be the only option in the DVR record options. I see TV shows, Udemy, and Workouts as options also, but those are directories on my 12TB raid array that I have as permanent storage. I am trying to make sure that the constant read/write cycles that the DVR will see are isolated to only the DVR library on the cheap replaceable 1TB disk. is this possible?
Centos 8 dedicated plex server

Unfortunately, all the folders included in the TV Library will be selectable as a recording target. And from what I remember, the order that that they appear in the selection list is not very controllable – appears to be almost random.
You can, however, create another TV Show library specifically for DVR recording (call it “DVR”) and only have one folder included in that library. Users will still be able to select any TV Show Library. But as long as they select the obvious “DVR” choice, all the recordings will go to the folder you want.
I can record on the new volume, that’s not the issue, I just wanted to remove any other options to be sure nobody accidentally records to the other libraries because all of those are mounted to my 12tb array. It’s looking like it’s not an option
oh my bad. I don’t know about that one sorry. Only thing I can think of is to set permission to deny write on those folders. But I m unsure what issues that may cause
Actually, you pointed out something that I stumbled across last night and that solved it. I gave the Linux user “plex” read and write access so that I can record and delete from the plex app. All other directories are owned by my Linux user so that I can add and delete from the backend, so your idea is actually probably the only one that works. I still see the other libraries listed when I go to record a tv show, but fails to write because of permissions.
