Can I limit the entire remote stream bandwidth for the server? Not just an individual stream?

Server Version#: QNAP Package V1.19.2
Player Version#:

If I look at the Remote Access settings, I see the “Limit remote stream bitrate” setting which will limit an individual stream bitrate. “Set the maximum bitrate of a remote stream from this server.” That’s great, but if I have 10 people streaming at the same time, then it will overload my network.

Is there a way that I can limit the entire remote stream bandwidth globally for the server? For example, I could have a 2 Mbps remote stream limit per stream limit but a 5 Mbps remote stream limit for the entire server?

Or is there a way to limit the number of remote streams? If I could limit it to just 2 remote streams at any point in time, that would solve my problem as well I believe.

Thanks!

What did you set your "Internet upload speed " to, this is the limiter on the aggregate of outgoing streams.

Oh, that never occurred to me to set “Internet upload speed” to a lower value which would treat that as a limit. It says “Enter an upload speed here and Plex can ensure it operates within this boundary” but i didn’t know how to interpret that. Does Plex limit itself to the value of what is specified for “Internet upload speed”? Or does it use some fraction of that value so it doesn’t use everything?

According to the support doc: Just be aware that more streams may start transcoding as Plex tries to fit them into the bandwidth.

Tip! : The Plex Media Server is smart enough to prevent saturating the bandwidth value specified here. It will only use 80% of this for streams both to ensure that normal network requests can be completed and because streams have variable bitrates and will naturally go up and down somewhat.

Awesome! Thank you!
