Can not get Plex media server to start from QNAP TS-251+

Hi all,

Just purchased this NAS today and have had no issues installing Plex media server on my unit, however when I go to start the app it opens a new tab and displays the following error (Chrome):

This site can’t be reached

192.168.86.58 unexpectedly closed the connection.
Try:
Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED

How can this be resolved? Has anyone had this problem before? I’ve searched to no avail.

Cheers

Just for some additional context I’m running a Mac, QNAP firmware is 4.3.3.0378 Build 20171117.

For the initial installation you need to use http (instead of https) and your Mac should be connected locally to the same LAN (usually the same IP range) as the QNAP server.

Thanks for that. That has not fixed the problem - my NAS is on 192.168.58.xx and so is my Mac. I was absolutely trying to get setup via http and not https; the web interface for the NAS is also non-secure. What else could be causing this? I am seeing the same error when I try to access other services in a new tab from the QNAP unit.

It’s probably a network parameter, such as default gateway or netmask. If you install this you will have access to PMS logs (in File Station) and you can zip and post them here for further analysis.

Edit by dane22: Altered link to not go to specific release, but to latest, so it’s updated for future ref as well

Ok so I’m not sure what I’ve done but I managed to get the server connection working with Plex now - it just boots all of a sudden. I am still having an issue with Sickrage though, which I am also trying to get running (same error, new tab leads to ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED). Is there a way to log this to show here?

We do not support Sickrage. But you can paste images in this forum. This is what I use for that:

  1. Copy screen
  2. Paste into paint.net (there are similar tools for Mac) and edit (to hide personal info, if any)
  3. Cut the rectangle that I want to post here
  4. Paste into the text area (as any other text)

Oh my god this simple answer took me so long to find xxxx
I could more than kiss you! Thank you soo much x
