Can Plex support non-seasonal show collections? (i.e. Looney Tunes: Platinum Collection)

Hello,

I can’t find a way to automatically (or even manually) assign metadata to a TV show packaged as volumes, rather than seasons. Example:

Looney Tunes: Platinum Collection, Vol. 1

Plex issues with supporting this content:

  • Plex can’t find the correct metadata — not surprising, since it’s a collection vs. a TV show per se

  • Plex seemingly only supports “Season” folders, not “Volume” folders

  • Although I’ve given episodes actual names (“Looney Tunes_ Platinum Collection, Vol. 1 - S01E01 - Hare Tonic”) as part of their filename, Plex isn’t using them

  • There’s no apparent way to define correct metadata manually using external files (I don’t want to use Plex’s “pencil” tool, because it’s temporarily to the database)

Does Plex have a way of supporting collections like this?

If you want it to be scraped as a tv show you need to follow thetvdb layout as such

http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=72514&lid=7

Ie S1940E01. The program Filebot can help to a degree, but it will req some manual labour.

The note’s much appreciated, and thank you for the FileBot recommendation!

Unfortunately, this collection doesn’t appear in TheTVDB.

With other media management apps (e.g. Lightroom), I can have “sidecar” XML files with metadata. That would be a solution, but Plex doesn’t appear to support a similar feature. Can anyone confirm that I’m not just missing it?

Tvdb only has one entry per show ref https://forums.thetvdb.com/viewtopic.php?t=9174 - not much plex can do about that sorry.

Afaik there’s no such option with sidecar xml. Look at the local assers and see if that helps https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220717-Local-Media-Assets-TV-Shows

I translated my Looney Tunes collection to the season format.
That way it works.

Thanks for the workaround, I’ll give it a try.

My wish for the Plex team is that they’d enhance local media assets support to include a way to specify metadata locally via sidecar files. (First world problems, etc.)

I took a different tack. I made a Cartoon folder & ripped the cartoons with the title "Cartoon_Title (years).ext. I then created a Cartoon library for Movies rather than TV. IMDB found all the cartoons easy. I like this better because I don’t have to figure out which “season” a cartoon is in in order to watch it.

Thank you for this idea! I just created a Bugs Bunny folder with your method and it worked great. It’s gonna take a while to go through all 297 files I ripped from the Golden Collection and put them in the proper libraries, but it will be worth it when I’m done!
