I need some advice from someone more clever than myself. I know TV shows need to be broken down by seasons and episodes. I’m running into issues with collections like Laurel & Hardy or the The Looney Tunes Golden Collection. I have several shows like these that are not broken down by seasons or episodes. I’ve had to just reorganize them so they will show up in Plex. But this causes metadata issues and doesn’t pull all the right episode information.
Does anyone have any good suggestions on how I can better categorize these specific types of media?
You are in luck for Looney Tunes. Someone graciously added the Golden Collections.
Nope… Thetvdb removed them leaving only one with 14 episodes. Last update was yesterday so more episodes may trickle in. https://www.thetvdb.com/series/looney-tunes-golden-collection
Are your episodes separated or just one big file with multiple episodes in it?
Plex (and the metadata sources Plex is using) only knows ‘seasons’.
Those volumes have been compiled from the original seasons and episodes.
The best thing you can do is:
find the show on TheTVDB
look at the list of all episodes (‘All Seasons’) https://www.thetvdb.com/series/looney-tunes/seasons/all and determine the original season and episode numbers for all the episodes you have in your volumes. Rename the files accordingly.
In these two cases, they are in volumes, with like ‘best of’ scenarios, then episodes within that. They are actually really messed up right now. I’m afraid I made it much worse before making it better.
if tvdb doesn’t have the right series or metada info or not in the order you want, another option is to put that content in a separate MISC video library and manually add any extra metadata.
the same can be done for workout videos, home videos, pr0n, etc
OttoKerner answer is probably the best you can get.
If you don’t want or have time you could begin the episodes at a high number, say 100. Then you can slowly correct them at your leisure. At least that way you will have them to watch in the mean time.
