Can someone help me understand the restrictions settings

hello,

so i have several libraries, movies, kids movies, tv shows, kids tv shows

in the movies library i have all the marvel and dc movies, that i want my son to be able to see from his plex account but no see all the other movies in the library.
i had it set up before so that as i add movies the ones i want him to see appear and the rest dont, but i cant figure out how to set it up again.

do i use the exclude field or do i need to tag all the movies in all libraries?

thanks,

Put all the kid friendly tv shows in the “Kids TV Shows” folder on your HDD, place all the other shows in a separate folder, perhaps a “Adult TV Shows” folder. Now point the Kids TV library in PLEX to the Kids TV Shows folder only. Point the Adult TV show library at BOTH the Kids and Adult TV show folders on the HDD. This will prevent the kids from seeing more than they should and allow the adults to see anything. Do the same process with the Movies folder.

I don’t think that accomplishes what he’s asking for. A variation of it would be possible, but let me make a different suggestion.

To restrict access to most content by rating, and some additional parentally-approved content, I would use Restrictions and Labels.

In the server settings, under Plex Home (if it’s a managed user):
or Manage Library Access (if it’s a full account):

I would grant him access to both Libraries.

Then I would configure Restrictions:

No predefined Restriction Profile
Allow only ratings: G, TV-G (and others as desired)
Allow only labels: PermitPatrickSon

Then, add the PermitPatrickSon label to the additional media he has permission to watch
