Cannot access subfolders

Reinstalled plex on dsm 7, my files are located in volume1/Videos/Movies, but when I go to add the Movies subfolder as I did in prior versions, it does not show up, the further I can get is volume1/Videos. I’ve set permissions for folders for plex to have read-only and admin to have read/write access.

DSM 7 (Synology in general) likes to claim exclusive access to their pre-created folders.

For all permission changes on DSM 7, because we were forced to change the username,

  1. Control Panel - Shared folders - Permissions
  2. Change “Local User:” to “System Internal User”
  3. Add “PlexMediaServer”
  4. Click Done
  5. Check the box “Apply to this folder, sub-folders and files”
  6. SAVE

now the permissions will be propagated down through your media files.

Go back into Plex. You should now be able to see the folders you want to add.
