Cannot access Web UI of new (second) server.

So I’m working to migrate my old PMS to a new server and installed PMS on that hardware. However, when I try to access the UI it asks me to login via plex.tv and then redirects me to app.plex.tv and shows me my old/original server. I do not see the new server in my drop-down list of available PMS’

How do I access/configure the NEW install on this completely different hardware?

Some details:

  • I am using the direct IP of the new server to attempt to access it. I am not trying to use plex.tv (but I get redirected here)
  • I’ve tried turning off the original PMS and then accessing the new one, still get redirected to plex.tv
  • I added AllowedNetworks to the Preferences.xml for my LAN, no change

Have you tried disabling remote access to the old server and signing out the old server from Server…General and Server…Remote Access

That should remove it from your Plex account, then you can add the new one

I have not, as I wanted both servers to be operational at once (that used to work, as I’ve done it in the past). With how tightly PMS is linked to the Internet now, I keep running into things like that that apparently no longer function the way they used to.

What do you mean by you migrated the old server? Did you copy everything? Including the registry/plist/preferences file? That will just confuse Plex Web as both servers will be treated the same. Delete the registry/plist/preferences file and restart PMS.

If you did not do the above, did you possibly have PMS installed before so it is linked to a different Plex account? If so, again, delete the registry/plist/preferences file and restart PMS.

Not migrate, I want to “slowly transition from the old server to the new server”. As in, point both servers to the media on NAS while I slowly begin rebuilding all my categories, populating thumbnails, cover art, fast-forward data, etc, etc. I can’t bring the entire thing back up on a new server in a single evening. It’s going to take days to reprocess my entire media set and in the mean time I want the old server operational to still provide content.

And no, no previous account setup was done with the new server. I simply installed via .deb, hit the web interface, and it asked me to auth to plex.tv and redirects me to the content of my old server.

That all sounds fine. When your server came up, were you shown a message that there was an unclaimed server. You would need to “claim” the new server before it is available in the drop down list.

Nope, was never shown that. I’ve tried uninstalling the package (–purge) and reinstalling, no new messages, nada.

So I’ve set AllowedNetworks… why is it still prompting me to login to plex.tv first?

SOLVED:

Apparently I was hitting it by DNS, which doesn’t allow me access to the local server. I had to hit it by IP instead. It then prompted me t o configure the new Plex server.
