Plex client applications (eg. on an Ipad) can detetc that a sevrre is present (labelled TS859) but with an exclamation mark and I cannot access any media on the server.
Just to be clear - when I click on ‘claim server’ in settings, I do not get any error messages. The text in the button rotates for a moment to indicate a process is taking place and then the words ‘claim server’ simply reappear on the button.
I noticed in some other posts on claiming PMS issues being caused by the NAS DNS settings. So I have set the DNS on my QNAP to my router IP, also tried setting it to 8.8.8.8. Neither worked, I am still unable to claim the server.
I am noticing that on ocassion I get an error message saying there was a problem siging in to Plex. However, that error message then disappears and my account is signed in.
I think something in the communication between my NAS and Plex is preventing the server from being claimed even though i can sign in to my account. As already noted, setting the DNS on my NAs to 8.8.8.8 does not cure this.
A final observation which may be useful. As I cant get the Plex Media Server working on my QNAP NAS, I mounted the NAS drives on an Nvidia Shield and am using the Plex media server on that device., Setup on the Shield has worked fine, and the Shield is on the same network/subnet and behind the same router as the QNAP NAS.
ChuckPa - thanks for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it.
As far as IP, subnet and DNS are concerned - all devices I am using are on the same subnet. DNS on the QNAP NAS is set to get obtained automatically, Gateway is set correctly. I believe these settings are correct as the NAS is able to sync to an internet time server and get updates for apps from the internet without issue.
I followed your instructions. I was unable to run the UserCredentialReset as I got a permission error, even though i was logged in as admin. Hence I did a chmod instruction first and then ran it. The script asked for me for the claim token, which i supplied, and then ran reporting success at the end.
Upon restarting Plex after this operation, I could no longer access the plex web gui on http://ip.addr.of.qnap:32400/web
It would simply timeout with a not found error.
Having rebooted the QNAP NAS, same behavior - no webgui. Opening the Plex app on another device the QNAP Plex server is not shown to be pesent in any way.
With no ability to acess Plex, I have uninstalled and reinstalled PMS from the QNAP app centre. Plex reported a sign in error as I intially tried to set the server up, but I am now back to where I was, with the claim server button available but not working when I press it.
Please advise what to try next, and thanks again for your help.
To see if it would tell us anything new, I tried the UserCredentialReset process again. The porcess works without reporting any errors, I already had a webgui window open and upon restarting PMS and clicking open this window was brought to foreground. It initially reported that it could not find server TS859 and is now trying to locate my SHIELD server (which I have turned off so as not to confuse anything). So after running the UserCredentialReset my TS859 server goes from not being able to be claimed to not being able to be found.
ChuckPa- can I get some additional help with this?
Doesn’t the fact your script runs without error tells us that the issue here is not with IP address or DNS? And if it is not that, then what else is going on?
