Cannot connect to my Plex Server on Synology Nas

Server Version#: 1.13.4.5271 - 200287a06
Player Version#: 3.2.20 - 25990C77

Hi,
I am not much of a techo but I will try here…

For some strange reason I can no longer log in to my Plex Server running on my synology DS216j.

It has been running great for a long time. however just over the last fee days I can no longer connect.
My DS216j is running the latest DSM 6.2.2-24922, and I can connect easy.

However when I try to connect using my LG TV App or my Apple TV App, it cannot find the server.

I have tried uninstalling the App on he NAS and installing, but no luck… I cannot access it either from my iphone plex app, however phone iphone can access it when connected to the same network as home.

One big thing is I cannot open the Synology Nas Plex App.

Help… I am not sure what to do ??

Thanks.

Craig.

Craig,
You can successfully connect to the Synology from your Laptop’s web browser?

Hi ChuckPA,

Thank you for replying.

Yes… I can connect to my Nas via my laptop, Mac, iPhone etc.

However if I try to connect to the Plex Server, it will not find the server, even the Plex App within my Synology Desktop will not open…

Cheers.

Trumpy is out on personal business but I’ll try to help.

From what you’re describing, this seems to be a case of “Works at home but not remotely” ?

When you open http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web , I assume it load the plex/web app?
Presuming this does work, it sounds like the two aren’t on the same account / signed in.

Would you please

  1. Sign the browser out (upper right corner)
  2. close the tab
  3. Open an Incognito to the Plex app on the Syno. It should come up and ask you to sign in.
  4. If this works, Then it’s talking to plex.tv ok.
  5. If not, we will need to see why it’s signed out / not connected to Plex.tv.

If you get this far down the list with no success

Open the Plex share in File station, Navigate down until you see the Logs directory.
Right click Logs and Compress to Logs.zip

Please attach that zip. I’ll be able to see what just happened when you tried to access it

Hi,

Thanks again…

Before I step through your list… I wish to point out, that item one…

I cannot open the http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web from within my Synology Nas.

I am currently working remote and have my Nas Desktop open in a Windows Browser and all is working fine, however if I click on the Plex App within the Synology Desktop, even if I am at home and on the same wifi, I get the following:

This site can’t be reached

###.###.###.### refused to connect.

The hashes show my ip address.

So I cannot even access the Plex App on my Nas.

Does that make sense ?

Craig.

Yes. It sounds like a network configuration issue.

At your leisure,

Stop and Restart Plex
give it 60 seconds to stabilize and sit idle
Gather the ZIP log files.

I stopped the Plex Server and restarted it, however when going into Filestation and under Homes folder, there is a Plex Folder but there is nothing in it?

I’m really battling here.
Sorry to be a pain. You are very kind to help.
Craig

Craig,

Please go to Control Panel - Shared Folders - Plex - EDIT - Permissions

Now check the box for your username and give it R/W permission.

Go back to FileStation.

Hi ChuckPA,

Ok… I had to use my brain…

I hope these are what you are after.

Logs.zip (581.1 KB)

Stopped and restarted Plex Server.

Latest log.

Plex Media Server.zip (917 Bytes)

Hi ChuckPA,

I installed a new Plex App on my MacBook and although I have signed in to my Plex account, it cannot find my Nas Server.

Not sure how all this works… but it seems that my Plex account has lost its connection to my Nas Server.

Hope that makes sense and helps,

Cheers.
Craig,

Hi Trumpy81.

Thanks… but being an idiot, what does this do ?

Cheers.

Craig.

Oh poo… I think this is way beyond my ability.

Hi Trumpy81,

Thanks… but after reading all of that info… I feel it’s way above what I can do.

I suppose I’m stuffed then.

Craig.

Hi,

Yes… Ok… I’ve done some steps… but I assume I have to be on the same network as my NAS?

I am doing it on my Macbook

I am remote at the moment and get a Fail… I will try it again when I’m home tonight…

Thanks again for both of your help. I will get back to you on my results.

Cheers.

Hi,

Wiki is great, just wish i was a little smarter when it comes to IT stuff.

Hey… did you see my comment above that when I click on the Plex Icon (App) in my Synology Desktop, it tries to connect using my WAN IP address , but cannot. This has been happening for a long time now… will this small fix repair that problem as well ?

Cheers.
Craig

Ok… I think?

I’ll try the fix when I get home, and see how I go and report back later…

Thanks for your help… I’m in my 60’s and find this a little daunting.

Cheers.

Hey…

If this all fails… If I was to delete the Plex Folder and files, uninstall the Server App from my NAS, reboot the Nas Server, then do a new install of Plex server using my existing account, that it would all work again?

Cheers.

Craig.

Hi Trumpy81

Well… it did work… Thanks !!!

However, although I can now watch my Plex within my network, I have no remote connection.

I have tried, I think, everything on the help screen.

Any suggestions ?

Cheers and thank you so much.

Craig
