I have just purchased PLEX (Pass) and successfully installed onto a Windows 2019 server.
I have a Samsung TV which I can successfully connect to the server.
I have added my daughters plex account as a friend on the server.
My daughter can successfully view the media content from her laptop on my home network.
However, if I log out of the Samsung TV and then log in with her account (because she has other shared content which we would like to see), she sees the icons for the shared content (as with her laptop) but when clicking on them an error message occurs saying:
“Can’t connect to the selected server or the content is not available”.
She is able to connect to other shared content - just not the shared content on my local server.
The content is available of course because she can connect using the application on her laptop.
Are you saying that this TV can access your own server if you sign it into your own plex account?
Is this TV situated in your own home network (local to your own server)?
I actually have two Samsung TV’s and I just checked the other one and same issue.
So it seems that when signing in to the TV using my daughters plex account, she can access shared content from a remote server but not the local one. However, when using her laptop (same network) she can access the home server. All TV’s and laptop use a Wi-Fi connection.
I am actually not sure if this old app is already supporting Plex Home. You have added your daughter to your Home, which might cause the trouble.
This app has long been unsupported, so I’m afraid there is not much you can do, except getting an external player device which has an up-to-date Plex client. (FireTV, Apple TV, nVidia Shield etc)
Thanks - we have Firestick on both TV’s - never thought about that. Just tried it and works fine. Guess we can access from one account with Samsung and other from Firestick or watch from both with Firestick.
I may have the same or similar issue: Plex App version 1.019 but running on a Samsung D-Series PN64D8000.
Plex has worked on this TV for years, but recently Samsung Smarthub did the usual automatic update, and now I cant access the server in the next room. I dont know if 1.019 has always been the version used, but nothing works now.
I can still access the server on my WiFi connected Iphone with no issue, so it is definitely a Samsung problem. I just don’t know what changed to make it stop working.
