Had a movie (Watchmen 2009) on my Media Server, noticed that perhaps the file was corrupted as when scanning for new content, the PMS did not ever finish scanning until my Synology NAS’ RAM was maxed out and the program was forced closed. I deleted the file from the directory, naturally went in and deleted the movie from PMS but it does not allow me to. I cannot delete this remnant of the movie from PMS no matter what I attempt. Due to this, everytime I scan the directory for new movies, I have to force close the server in order for it to continue to be operational on restart. Perhaps someone can help me point to what I have to delete in order to fix this issue. The scan stops on the file Watchmen, which no longer exists and just hangs there until my NAS force closes the server. Once, it is force closed, I can run the server again and works normally. I have tried adding the movie again, naming it the same, then deleting it from PMS but this did not solve my problem. I fear there is an error somewhere in my Media Server but I do not know where to look to fix it. I do not want to reset my server, have a ton of movies organized exactly how I want it so that would be a very difficult ask.
That location is reserved for use by Plex Media Serve (as noted by the message in six languages saying, “Please do not place any media files here.”). Placing your media in that location will lead to system instability.
You must move your media files to another location (FYI, do not use the /video or other such media folders created by Synology, those are reserved for Synology apps).
Review these two documents, especially the area in each concerning media organization:
Wow, shocking that I have been using Plex this wrong for so long. I had thought the warnings in different languages referred to the parent folder and not subfolders created there. Thank you @FordGuy61, I do appreciate the time you’ve taken to help me fix my issue. I’ll move those files to a new directory I will create for them and point PMS to that directory instead. Hoping this will solve it for good.
