Hi, hope you can help, although I have used plex for many many years I am not very technically minded so please reply in non rocket science way.
Ok, around a month and half ago I deleted a few files from my library because I got better resolution versions of the files. I simply went to the film folder folder where the film was, deleted it and put in the new film. This has worked since I can remember. Now when I go to my server the circle thing is just spining like it is updating the film and has done for the past month and half. I cannot ut any new content in as it adds them but simply does not update to say what the files are.
Ive tried taking out the film 500000000 times and putting back a folder and naming it the same but still nothing. I even taken the film folder off my list and tried re-adding it… Nothing!!!
Is there a way I can manually delete this file so my server can add files again correctly? I really havnt a clue what to do??? Ive udated, scanned complete libraries and basically tried everything I have don for years but getting nowhere. I dont want to wipe i and start again as there are literally 10’s of thousands of files and films.
It deletes all info about the old version of the movie/show from your Plex system. You then add the new version and PMS scans it, downloads metadata, etc, just like for a new movie.
You will lose played/unplayed status when you do this. It will appear as a new movie/show in your system.
Move existing media item out of the directory your Library is looking at, so Plex will not “see” it anymore
scan the library (to detect changes)
empty trash
clean bundles
double check naming schema of new version and move it into appropriate Plex library, where Plex can see it.
Yes, Im way beyond that… Done all of that a gazillion times, still nothing. This has been going on for over a month and half and tried everything I can think of, which included everything you said and more, many many times and still nothing, before coming on here asking for help???
If you remove a movie from your system, using the first four steps of the Plex Dance, in exact order, does Plex remove it or does it still appear in the system (even though it is not physically there)?
If you add a new movie that has never been in your system, does Plex add it correctly?
Have you changed anything on your system recently - updated to Catalina, updated PMS, etc?
What version of PMS are you running? See Authorized Devices or Plex Web -> Server (not client) Settings -> General
Instead of the library, click on the three dots to the right of your server name, then choose Manage Server. You’ll see the options to Empty Trash, Optimize Database, and Clean Bundles.
It still apears even though it is not phusically there. I have removed the new copy I wanted to update with also. The circle is pinning like it is trying to update something that is there but it is not in my files what so ever.

NO

Yes, but this hapened before I updated to Catalina and Yes I have done several PMS updates hoping this would resolve my problem… Non ow which have.
Think it is time to pull log files. Hopefully someone who is good at reading them will pick up on this thread and can determine what is happening (we’re getting past my knowledge level of Plex).
Go to PMS Settings -> General. Check the box for debug logging. Make sure the box for verbose logging is NOT checked. Save any changes.
Perform the Plex Dance for an existing movie. In step 5, put back the same version if you do not have an updated one.
After the library scan has finished, wait ~2 minutes, then go to PMS Settings -> Troubleshooting and click on Download Logs.
Post the entire zip file. Also include the name of the movie you danced (makes it easier to search the files).
The Plex Dance involves removing and adding media, both of which are not working correctly. The logs of the process should point out what is happening on your system.
Heres the Zip file if anyone has a clue. Sorry I didnt know you just drag and dropped.
The offending file was originally “The Doors (1991)”
But there are a few others as well
Thanks
Les
Just drag it into the compose window. It will attach where the cursor is located. You can also use the upload button, the one with the arrow.
Some of the files will have your e-mail address. If you with to remove it, unzip the file, edit the Plex Media Server log files, and then search/delete your e-mail address. You can then re-zip them and upload the zip file.
That is the only personally identifiable info I know of in the files. It will have your server name and local IP address (ex: 192.168.1.5), but that does not give enough info for somebody to reach your system.
I’ve never performed either of those procedures, so I don’t know if there are any “gotchas” to watch out for, etc.
You might search the server-mac area of the forum for “database corruption” to find how others addressed the problem. I found this thread that has some good info.
Others may weigh in as well with additional info.
Good luck with things. Hopefully you can fix the existing database or restore from a backup.
I havent a clue about using terminal but thought Id ake the risk. I justfollowed all the lines of code, restarted my mac, it took a while loading but worked. I managed to delete the offending files and could fix matches on my uploads.
