Cannot fetch artwork metadata for one item only, text fetches correctly

Server Version#: Version 3.104.2 on Ubuntu

I have added a couple of new tv shows this morning. one worked fine, the other is not fetching artwork. It fetches description and title correctly.

I have deleted the agent cache and it did not help.

below are some errors from logs. when i try access them directly i get ‘not authorised’ and ‘404’ errors but I am just trying in browser.

In the Info.xml file, it lists the url for the banner as https://thetvdb.com/banners/fanart/original/5b81aa8f18ae9.jpg which downloads just fine with curl…

there is a single file in the art directory which is named 78638f3cb2243dfd7264a4478dc2cba182def5e1 which turns out to be a jpg file of the banner thumbnail, but it is only 14KB while the full version linked in the Info.xml is 217KB

Unauthorized also. You could zip up your debug log folder and attach it for us.
Context helps us figure it out. You did a great job investigating the cached image.

I guess that means you followed the above article? Okay then, with any issue network issue, I’d restart all my hardware first, then capture the logs after PMS has been running for 10min.

You can also just try to Plex Dance the show away and put it back after reboot. That would force it to fetch anew, making for interesting logs.

Ok, did the plex dance, shutting down PMS. cleared cache files, deleted logs, etc.

Rebooted, moved media directory back, did a scan.

Matched automagically, including series description, etc. but no artwork.

A few requests & Suggestions.

  1. Please turn off VERBOSE logging. It does not help. It only hinders in 99% of the cases.

  2. With all your plexignore rule activity, it’s almost impossible to see. I strongly recommend you rearrange your data so Plex doesn’t need to ignore it. It will make the task of scanning much faster and debugging far easier.

  3. Your filenames are very poorly named. It does not surprise me you can’t get everything to match. As example:

Danger.Mouse.S02E05.The.Bad.Luck.Eye.of.the.Little.Yellow.God.DVDRip.x264.mkv

You need more than just a period as the delimiter here.

I strongly urge you to use a tool such as FileBot. It will make renaming a snap for you and you can make them Plex compliant.

As example: the name above could be:

Danger Mouse.S02E05.The Bad Luck Eye of the Little Yellow God [DVDRip x264].mkv

(Anything in [] is ignored by Plex.)

I use the rule (with my television series on the NAS in /nas/tv)

/nas/tv/{n}/Season {s.pad(2)}/{n}.{s00e00}.{t}

Now I have fully compliant naming and structure automatically. I drop files into FileBot, It finds, verifies with me the resultant name, and then renames+moves when I click “Rename”.

Renaming 150 full series (4 & 7 season series) takes about 5 minutes for me after which time, curating it perfect and Plex never fails to match almost instantly.

In Summary, Using torrents, with the names exactly as you downloaded them, will never end well. Some amount of curating is required.

Thanks for the advice. I do know that is the preferred way for plex to operate and hopefully I can get organised in the future.

In this case, i spun up an ubuntu vm and tried a fresh plex with the same result. Metadata but no artwork.

That looks like a direct return from TVDB saying forbidden (not allowed).

Can you access the banners in their web site?

Is this a Ubuntu VM on Windows?

No, the VM is inside of proxmox (debian).

banners load normally on tvdb site and I can view the referenced banners in the log: https://thetvdb.com/banners/fanart/original/5b81aa8f18ae9.jpg and https://thetvdb.com/banners/_cache/fanart/original/5b81aa8f18ae9.jpg

I can also download them with curl from the plex box.

it is curious that there is no reference to the poster urls in the log however.

Proxmox behaves very oddly with Plex unless setup a specific way.

The only support we can offer is from a User-Contributed Guide.

I would like to see the logs if possible. It’s impossible to determine what’s happening from only those two lines (which aren’t errors)

How does it behave oddly? The link only refers to GPU passthrough and hardware acceleration which I don’t use.

Apologies for not getting back sooner.

First, The Community-provided how-to is the only support for Proxmox which exists. Like OpenMediaVault, neither are officially supported but we and the community do our best to help where we can.

In your logs are intermittent timeouts attempting to communicate with Plex.tv

I don’t know why this is happening It could just as easily be internet service provider as it could be host itself being slow. It’s impossible to determine with only one type of error reporting.

Thanks for having a look. I just did a fresh plex dance and clean logs which are attached. Same issue where description and episode details are matched, but no artwork.

I could not see any error about reaching plex.tv in these ones. There are other errors though. Such as Error opening URL 'https://meta.plex.tv/tv_e/352026/stormester/-1'

is that normal? If I curl that url manually it gives me a 404…
