I have a Plex server setup on a 2023 Mac mini with an external HDD. It works fine when watching through Xbox, PS5 and LGTV from home, although I can never connect to Plex from my MacBook Pro or from my Windows gaming PC.
I bought my dad an Amazon Firestick for Christmas so that he could have access to my Plex library. I’m stuck with trying to get the server to me available remotely though.
I have UPnP turned on on my router. I have manually specified that my Plex server is available on port 20400, and have set up this rule on my router. When I go to canyouseeme however, I cannot be seen through this port. On the remote access page on Plex, if I click retry, the server says it’s available remotely for about 10 seconds then it goes back to being unavailable.
In the Port Forward statement, External Host should be blank/any/all (varies by router). You do not want to limit the external IP address. The address of mobile devices will change with each restart, as it moves through the mobile network, etc. The address of fixed remote device can also change if the remote user changes service levels, the ISP performs network maintenance, etc.
I now have another problem in that Plex is now saying “app.plex.tv is unable to connect to [server name] securely”. I had secure connections set to “Preferred” and if I change it to “Required” Plex changes the message to “[Server name] is currently unavailable”, even though I have it running.
Please pull a set of server log files (settings → troubleshooting) and upload the zip file to the thread. Drag the zip file into the message window. It will insert at the cursor location.
