No… you could provide the IMDb id with the legacy Plex Movie agent (the same way, you can do today). That didn’t use IMDb as metadata source entirely (iirc, that
legacy agent was using IMDb for movie titles).
Though, you could select from a wider range of agents, which did directly point to a repository/source (sometimes this involved a clone/proxy of the source data). With the publishing of Plex‘s API, Plex will also bring back an option for developers to build native / alternative agents.
