Plex Movie Agent won't match item that's in IMDB, TVDB and TMDB

Server Version#:1.42.2.10156
I’ve had this same problem with other titles, but this one is really bothering me. The name of the item is An Inconvenient Study (2025). No matter what I do, I can’t get the Plex Movie agent to match it by title, IMDB number, TVDB number, etc. Any ideas on what to do in this situation?

Links to all 3 sites for reference.

It appears this record was only just added last Friday to TMDb. Give Plex a few days to ingest it.

Ah, ok. I’ve been seeing this item advertised for months, but didn’t know the TMDb record was so recent. I’ll be more patient.

A post was split to a new topic: Problem matching TV Show

I am having similar issue with couple of Movies and Shows. For Movies there are valid TMDB IDs available and for TV Series I am using TVDB…for those entries the IDs were created at least a week ago. Based on my search Plex-Agent scrapes the data every 24-48Hours so should be there but for couple of items nothing works in terms of Auto or Manual search in Plex.

Movie not matching example: The Rats: A Witcher Tale (2025) - Changes — The Movie Database (TMDB)

Show not matching example: थोड़े दूर थोड़े पास - TheTVDB.com

That used to be the frequency, when Plex ingested updates and new records. As someone’s stated above, it seems that frequency has decreased — or at least it does no longer apply for all records.

Check watch.plex.tv to verify if a particular movie or show is in Plex‘s metadata repository.

Same here. I’ve been having issues matching content. Even when I input the manual IMDB or TMDB code I get no matches.

Which was created on TMDb on Nov 3, 2025… so it’s exactly the same thing. Plex can take longer to ingest new/updated metadata. Give it a few more days, check if the movie shows up on watch.plex.tv, then match it.

Thanks; I cannot find either one of above in the watch.plex.tv yet. Even if its not 48Hours…do we have any idea how long is the new recurring sync?

In the manual search we used to have the option to utilize other agents as well, but now its only the PLEX AGENT…so we are purely dependent on when ever Plex updates!!!

The Plex Movies and Plex Series agent match a show against Plex’s metadata repository. Their repository is an aggregated set of metadata that’s not just a single source.
With matching hints (e.g. when manually matching an item and providing its IMDb/TMDb/TheTVDb ID) you’re not searching metadata from another source… you’re just pointing Plex to which show it is, to get their aggregated / enriched metadata.

And yes, your assessment is correct. At least for now, you depend on Plex updating their backend. If you want to add movies/shows which have just been released… that includes a short waiting period.
Not sure if there’s an official new frequency for those updates to Plex’s metadata repository (also not sure if that’s a permanent change or just some temporary hiccup). I guess the various sources have their own rules on bulk-syncs (keep in mind, this is not a personal user syncing a few items but Plex does buckets of such requests… maybe those have been throttled :person_shrugging: ).
