Show: NewsRadio. All the normal Seasons appear to be working, but I cannot get it to match the specials. I’ve removed and re-added the files, done the plex dance, still not pulling metadata…
I’m using TVDB DVD Order
The Plex naming conventions page (here) says that the specials folder should be named Season 00 (two zeros) or just Specials. Could you try with a double zero?
Old or new metadata agent?
If you don’t know, copy the content of the guid="... property from the Plex XML info of an episode.
Yeah, I don’t think this is correct. I tried this for all Seasons. Didn’t fix the Specials/Season 0, and it broke matching for Seasons 3-5.
This is the new agent. Is this a new librarsy or did you change the metadata agent just recently? If the latter, did you Refresh Metadata of the whole library after changing the agent?
Which folder is set at the “Add Folders” tab?
I appear to have gotten it working. Problem was that apparently for the Plex Dance to work correctly, I had to remove the full TV Series instead of just the Specials/Season 0
Damn! Now the problem is worse! Season 0/Specials are matching, but there’s errors in the matching for one episode in Season 2 and all of Seasons 3-5 are now like Season 0 was before (no metadata)
So, prior to doing all of this, I had to fix TheTVDB DVD’s listing. The way it’s behaving now is like I never made those changes (the issue was with episode 18 on season 2, and all of the episodes for Seasons 3-5 were under “Unassigned Episodes”) I have to believe these are related. Like Plex is using some cached version of what it grabbed from TheTVDB…
Trying the Plex Dance one more time. This time I’m removing the whole NewsRadio folder thinking that maybe just the presence of this folder prevents cached data from being cleared.
Nope, WTF is going on? Plex is definitely still caching something. Especially since it’s remembering that I’d set the ordering to TVDB DVD.
Looks like our api isn’t returning the Specials season for the DVD order of this show (and only for airing order). I’m opening a ticket.

Okay then. It actually looks like this is a TVDB issue. Perhaps their API is serving up old data?
I switched the Episode Ordering to The Movie Database and everything looks good.

I don’t know if this is related, but it’s another data point to look at with TVDB. I cannot get the first four episodes of Beavis and Butt-head to match up either:
Having very similar problems with TV Episode metadata. Unsure if this is related but I’m seeing the following in my server log:
Aug 25, 2021 08:56:20.027 [0x7fa091941b38] ERROR - [MetadataAgent/tv.plex.agents.series] Unable to find media provider
That will result in nothing matching.
Restarting your server may fix this, if not please provide me with the server logs and I can check what’s causing the issue.
When did you do this? Those changes won’t be available in Plex for days.
Yesterday. Any way for me to check the API results?
I cannot make out much from the logs (please enable Debug logging in Settings → General).
The only useful piece of information is Aug 25, 2021 08:27:23.594 [0x7fa0927d5b38] ERROR - [MediaProviderManager] Error issuing curl_easy_perform(handle): 7
A quick search of this error indicates that it could be a firewall or similar issue.
“CURL ERROR 7 Failed to connect to Permission denied ” error is caused, when for any reason curl request is blocked by some firewall or similar thing.
Debug logs could potentially show more information.
