Cannot run Plex on Synology

I am trying to set-up Plex on a Synology NAS DS213j have run into some issues. I successfully downloaded and launched the app and changed the permissions… Then I updated the DSM version and re-started the NAS. When it came back up, I was unable to run Plex again.

I tried following guidance on the forum by removing the Plex User, then removing Plex from the Shared Folder before manually re-loading Plex through DSM. Now I am getting the following error message:

“A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex Media Server.”

I am at a total loss as to how to troubleshoot. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

Thanks for your help. I followed your instructions using MS Edge (instead of Chrome) and continue to receive the same error message…

“A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex Media Server.”

Any other ideas on how I resolve this?

I’m not really interested in resetting my NAS and reloading all of my movies and backed-up files. I think I’m going to switch back to AppleTV, which was super easy to set-up. Plex isn’t worth all this effort.

Trumpy isn’t speaking about reloading all the content.
He only is speaking about reinitializing (re-installing) DSM itself.

When done as Synology instructs:

  1. DSM configuration is saved
  2. DSM is re-initialized
  3. ALL data is preserved (everything on every share – Movies, Music, Plex’s metadata)

If you would like, we can give you this procedure. It’s very safe. I’ve done it several times.

Only DSM and the apps are reloaded.

Thank you for clarifying the process. If I don’t have to wipe my NAS, I am willing to try re-initializing DSM.

“A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex Media Server.”

I don’t understand why loading this application is so difficult.
