Cannot see attached USB WD 4TB adopted drive on Shield within Plex app on WD NAS

I have all my HDHOMERUN data on subject adopted drive on my Shield. It is under
U:\Android\data\com.silicondust.view\files\HDHomeRun\TVShows
On my WIN10 laptop I can use the above path in the Start Search entry field to verify I can see the contents.
When I am on the Plex app, which resides on a WD NAS (PR4100), and I try and create a library pointed to the above path, it doesn’t see it.
Is there a subtle syntax idiosyncrasy I should know about or can it not find the drive because of access rights being that it’s adopted?
I only need r/o access to this data as far as my use of Plex is concerned.

I’m wondering if I get this right…

  • you have a 4 TB USB WD HDD connected to your Shield
  • you’re using that HDD for HDHR which is running on the Shield
  • you’re running a Plex Media Server on a WD PR 4100 NAS
  • you want to access the Shield’s HDD with the HDHR data from your server on the PR 4100?

Very succinctly stated.

I remember once creating a library (if that’s the right terminology) pointed to a different NAS on my network and I didn’t have any problems…. But that was before I had to rebuild my PR4100 after a catastrophic system loss. Now when looking at what automatically appears when I’m searching for network devices, all I see is my PR4100. Is there a switch I haven’t turned on yet?

Assuming the HDD is already shared to your network, you need to mount in on the PR 4100 for Plex to be able to access it.

Yes, it’s already shared on my network. I looked within the app trying to find how to mount it in Plex and haven’t found it yet. I have done many searches using “mount” and haven’t found anything useful yet… frustrating !

Perhaps this is a clue… The drive can be seen under This PC within Explorer, but it does not appear under Network in Explorer. Does this need to be refreshed somehow?

You cannot mount a share / map a network drive from inside Plex. You’ll need to do that on the OS. If the Plex Media Server is running on your PR4100, that’s where you need to map the share.

I don’t have a WD NAS at hand. All guides I could find indicate you need to do that via SSH / command line; e.g. creating the folder to which the other network drive should be linked (mount point), then mount the drive manually or by entering it to /etc/fstab.

Hmmm, things were simpler before they went to their OS5. Thanks for the breakcrumbs, I should be able to make progress with that.
