Can't Claim Server - Synology DS918+ NAS

@seanh007

One of two things has happened:

  1. The most common reason for failure is because the Synology can’t connect to the internet properly. (PMS needs the internet to be claimed)
  2. The less likely is you started the setup process before the NAS had completed the lowest level initialization. It doesn’t happen often but it does happen.

To remedy this, first check the network

  1. Stop PMS in Package Center
  2. Control Panel - Network - Network Interfaces - Edit whichever one you plugged in.
  3. Below is a screenshot of my Synology configuration. Your configuration will differ but should look similar.
  4. If you change any network settings, restart PMS in package center and attempt to claim again

If not a network configuration issue, then it’s an initialization issue

  1. Control Panel - Shared Folders - Edit the Plex share - Permissions - Give your username R/W permission
  2. In File Station open the Plex share
  3. Right click Library and delete it
  4. When it completes, you can close File Station
  5. Start PMS
  6. Wait 30-45 seconds as it creates all the low level data structures
  7. In a fresh browser window, open http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web
  8. Sign in normally (this will claim it for you)

If anything fails, I’ll need to see the logs

  1. Stop Plex
  2. File Station -> Plex -> Library -> Application Support - Plex Media Server
  3. Right click on Logs
  4. Compress to Logs.zip
  5. Please attach that ZIP file and I will find out why PMS isn’t starting.
