Unable to install Plex Media server on Synology NAS

I have never been able to run PMS on Synology DS220+.

Recently I installed DSM 7 and followed the instructions carefully to install Plex on it.

  1. Persistently it refused to claim the server. Erasing and re-installing Plex with the “get token” option failed many times.
  2. I’m only able to install “normal”. That creates a Plex shared folder but no Plex User.
  3. Persisting with installation and creating movies etc don’t show thumbnails and don’t run, no codec fault.
  4. Claim the server persists to show.

I have however successfully setup Plex server on my M1 MacMini and using mapped drives from Synology NAS I can stream all the content stored on Synology. The streaming on the Mac is flawless.

This means I need to have the Mac running to stream Plex on iPad. I would rather stream directly from the NAS.

Any help would be welcome. I’m not very computer savvy!

Thanks

Hi Trumpy81. Thank you for your prompt response.
I am sending a compressed file of the log and database from Plex.
databaseBackup.dbff542a33-b6ef-4441-9ff4-ec57324842d0.zip (43.9 KB)
Plex Media Server Logs_2021-09-24_10-01-36.zip (186.4 KB)

During Plex server re-installation I again encountered the error"There was a problem claiming this server".

The installed version is 1.24.3.5033 and is displayed correctly. Yet it asks that an update is available and install manually.

My Synology NAS name is NEKNASS running on DSM 7.0.1-42214

Thank you for your assistance.

Hello Trumpy81

Thank you for your instructions and I followed them all. This time I used Google Chrome instead.

The problems unfortunately remain the same. Claim token install failed again. I had to do a normal install to generate the log files. I attach the new ones.

Thank you.

Hello Trumpy81

Here is the logs file from the NAS.

Thank you.

Hello Trumpy81

Thank you for all your instructions. The DNS on the Bond was not 8.8.8.8. But now I have changed the DNS in the NAS and MAC to this. The Subnet address are the same in all the devices.

After changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8 all items were rebooted, deleted Plex, dis-owned the claim, re-installed with claim token. But it again got stuck at the claim token stage.

I was using Google Chrome.

I am sorry there doesn’t seem to be solution to my NAS problem.

Thanks. Below are the latest logs:

Hi Trumpy81

Thank you for your patience.

The DNS is 8.8.8.8 on both the MAC IPv4 Tab (ethernet) and the Network interface on Synology.

Are there any other settings in Synology that is causing the DNS issue?

Thanks

Hello Trumpy81

Good news! Plex media server is now working from Synology NAS.

I thought I will check the security settings in Synology NAS. It wouldn’t load. I was unable to check the security settings.

I therefore decided to reset the network settings on the NAS by pressing the reset button for 4 seconds, rebooted Synology and entered a new password.

After that Plex installed faultlessly and running fine.

Thank you for your patience and help. It was a Synology issue all along!

Thanks again.
