Can't connect to PLEX on LAN with VPN active

I used to be able to use my Plex server on my Synology when the Synology had an active NordVPN connection running. Ass long as I was within my LAN, this wasn’t a problem, however, since last week, I can now only use Plex within LAN when the VPN on the Synology Plex Server is inactive.

How do I fix this?

Did you get an update from Synology?

If Plex works with the VPN turned off,

then the problem is either:

  1. DSM update
  2. VPN package update

It sounds like your VPN definition has become “captive” without allowing for the local LAN.

  1. Either as stated above
  2. Possible user-configuration change required.

I might have happened when they rolled out the DSM 7.1.42661 update 4 patch, yes.

Are you talking about re configuring the VPN setup? Edit: Just did, no difference.

I can access Plex just fine through DSM itrself with the VPN active. But I cannot cennect to Plex through my other devices (smartphone, Nvidia Shield and Sony Smart TV) if the VPN is active.

Yes.

Specifically , the local subnet mask.

/32 = this host only
/24 = this local lan (usually) – (which is 255.255.255.0 subnet mask )

I don’t know that app . I’m just following the logical path of how VPN nodes are defined.

I just tried accessing my media on LAN through other apps with VPN on NAS active.

No problem, so must be Plex related.

Accessing Plex on the LAN with the VPN active should never be a problem.
VPNs and remote access are always a problem because of the exit address.

I use VPNs for work here at plex and nothing has changed.

There have been a lot of reports of changes with DSM but I would seriously start by checking the VPNs configuration.

Specifically, you want to confirm the LAN is excluded from VPN capture.
