Can't enter username or password

Hi All,

maybe I’m too dumb, but I can’t enter username and password in my plex app on my samsung D-Series.
If I try to connect to the plex network it does not even let me navigate to the fields where I need to enter username and password. What do I do wrong? Is there a trick or something to get this data in there?

Thanks

It’s currently broken, you will need this fix
For a bit more guidance you can also download the manual

I did consult the manual, but the description there does not apply to the thing I see. In the manual it talks about a pin I need to enter, but that menu never appears.
If you say currently, does this mean there will be an update for the samsum app soon, or does this mean it will stay broken and the only way to fix is the USB way? Just curious if I just can wait a couple of days/weeks or if I should go the hard way.

You have a D series which is a 2011 model. Models before 2012 are officially no longer supported, but I asked Samsung to see if they could do the update anyway. When and if that will happen is unclear.
The USB method doesn’t work on older models so for now your only option is to use the SammyWidgets installer as explained in the link.

I did how I was ordered  but it still does not work. Same thing, I can’t enter username and password. It just asks if I want to login but does not let me enter my credentials. I checked the version, it is now 1.0.19, so this should be OK. I tried to do the pin code thing as described on page 22ff in the manual, but never get a pin offered. I checked that the server is connected to the plex account.
Any other idea?

Your doing it wrong! You need to use the PIN code method, click on the “Sign in” button.
Download the manual from the link below.

OK, got it. My server piece was too old. I use the Synology NAS and had to manually update the server. Thanks a lot for your help. Now I have it logged in and see it in my server, but I can’t use my Samsung TV as play target from my android devices, nor from the server. Is this the right behaviour?

Where in the manual does it say that it can do that?

Hi Orca,

thanks a lot for clarifying this.

Hi Orca,

I’m hoping you can help me and I’m posting here but I’m not sure if I’m having the same issue.

I am trying to use the Samsung app to log into my Plex Account at my lake house (my Plex Server is located at my perm residence). The problem is that when I start the app and choose to log in (not the manual to enter the IP of the local server) the app goes right to the login page automatically, without navigating with the remote (under settings) however I cannot get the remote to navigate down to the username to log in, I’m just stuck, no buttons seem to navigate except for the back button to go back to the initial log in page.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Thanks

You just need to push the “Sign in” button and follow the instructions.
Please download the manual below to show you how it works.

it doesn’t seem to work. its almost as if the buttons on the remote are unresponsive while in the app.

A screenshot of what you are seeing would be good.

These are the screens step my step.

After the 2nd screen the other ones happen automatically and when we go back to the “Sign in” the buttons on the remote do not do anything. its like we cannot choose the Sign In option to put in out username and password.

oops, somehow those were loaded wrong… the real order of the screens we see are… 1, 4, 5, 2, 3

anyone? any ideas?

The screen with the login error, should normally show you a pin code that it gets from the Plex website.
Looks like something is blocking the connection to the Plex.tv site. Make sure that your internet connection on the TV is working correctly and that it can reach https://plex.tv

Yeah I was surprised I was never asked for that (like i am on the Fire TV at home).

I will try to go to that site directly, however all the other apps like Netflix work fine, so I assume the connection to the internet is fine.

I’ll keep you poseted

Orca,

I was able to confirm that the player is connected to the internet. Just to be safe i reset the router and was getting a test speed is 22 Mbs through the samsung “connection speed app”.

I kept trying to get the app to connect. Each time I hit the enter button one of the 3 boxes in the top left of the screen would flash sequentially one at a time, then i would get the log in fail… however after hitting it over and over again like 10 times, i was finally asked to enter the pin.

However, by the time i got to the Plex sight to enter the pin the player “logged out do to inactivity”… i kept trying like 30 more times and was unable to get the pin/connection back.

Ho,

Sorry for reviving this ancient post, bit I’m actually in the same situation as Callan561’s.
Installed 1.019 version directly from smart hub repo.

Did anyone found a workaround?

Thank you!
Cheers
