Can't get direct connection on remote access...results in Infuse exceeded bandwidth limit

it’s been a while since remote access worked well, I basically can’t play videos from the Infuse app if I’m outside of my network. I get the bandwidth limit exceeded error on everything and so I I recently used the plex app directly and noticed I did not have a direct connection, which I think explains why I can’t play through Infuse. How do I make sure I have a direct connection to the server? In the past I had no problems at all playing content on Infuse even outside my home network.
