Server Version#:1.23.4
Player Version#:
I needed to remove the Plex server and reinstall it to a new SSD drive when I had reinstalled I fired up Plex and being a complete idiot for some reason I deleted my server from the Authorised Devices and now I can’t add any of my media or get into the server settings I have added my network IP and subnet to the Preferences.xml and rebooted the server but I still can not add my server to the approved devices.
Please can anyone help an idiot out?
Deleting your server from the list of authorized devices will basically sign it out / unlink it from your account. To relink it, open the bundled version of Plex Web from your server (http://[QNAP IP address]:32400/web)
Then navigate to Settings > [Server Name] > General and click sign-in on that settings page.
Thank you for replying but I don’t have my Server Name showing on the settings page, I have clicked the show advanced but there is nothing showing my Server Name.
So I thought I would try signing in with a new account (Apple ID) and try that way still know the server showing on the settings page on the Plex Web page.
If I click on the + Your Media on the left pane I get a page asking me to download Plex Media Server software to start.
It’s almost like the Server IP address:32400/web/index.html page I keep going to is acting as a player rather than the server.
Why the hell did I delete my server from the Authorised devices.
Check 1:
Verify that you’re accessing the server from inside the same subnet!!
Check 2:
I am on the same subnet and the Prefrences.xml work through lists
Preferences.xml file:
PlexOnlineHome="1"PlexOnlineMail="jane@example.com"PlexOnlineToken="RanDoMHexIDecIALtoKeNheRE"PlexOnlineUsername="ExampleUser"
But I have - (“taken out sensitive info”)
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><Preferences allowedNetworks=“myIP/Subnet”
OldestPreviousVersion=“1.23.4.4805-186bae04e” ProcessedMachineIdentifier=" Long numbers and characters"
AnonymousMachineIdentifier=“Long numbers and characters” />
So I cant even do the edit on the Preferances.xml as suggested.
Thank you for trying to help
Hi, I am really sorry if I have messaged you and shouldn’t have, but I am really struggling to get my plex server back up and running.
I am a lifetime Plex pass holder and love Plex I have been using it for 7 years now with no issues, but I had to remove the plex server from my Qnap NAS and before I uninstalled it I made a really stupid mistake and removed the Server from my Authorised Devices.
Now after installing Plex Server I can’t get to the server settings I keep getting either your not authorised or if I switch users and then back into my account it lets me in but only a basic player there are no options to add my server at all I have tried everything and don’t know where I can turn for help to fix it but as it stands I can’t get Plex server running on my Qnap.
I even tried installing Plex Server to another Qnap I have and I still get exactly the same issues on a totally different NAS.
I also thought it was my account and set up a new account and signed into Plex with that and get exactly the same issues…
I am happy to pay to get the help to fix this as I am desperate to have plex back, not to mention the wife and kids moaning they cant watch plex anymore on their devices.
Please help.
I would be of little help. I’ve never run Plex on a QNAP NAS. The steps you’ve already taken are the ones I would recommend (I saw your thread with Tom).
The QNAP FAQ might have something you can use.
Good luck getting things working again.
Thank you for taking the time to reply, I am grateful
So, since you uninstalled PMS on your QNAP, I guess it’s unclaimed, but to verify, browse to:
http://IP_OF_QNAP:32400/identity
Then show us the output
Thank you, here is the output
MediaContainer size=“0” claimed=“0” machineIdentifier="" version=“1.26.0.5715-8cf78dab3”> </MediaContainer
I removed the < > at the beginning and end as it would not post
this is my Preferences.xml file which is in .qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Library/Plex Media Server on my Qnap.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>Preferences OldestPreviousVersion=“1.26.0.5715-8cf78dab3” MachineIdentifier="" ProcessedMachineIdentifier="" AnonymousMachineIdentifier="" MetricsEpoch=“1”/
I have edited the Preferences.xml as the Plex guide but as you can see I don’t have the same values as the guide suggests but I have tried removing the values I have and saved the XML but as soon as I run plex I get “not authorised to view” the server and the values are back in the XML again as the same as before.
Okay, your server is not claimed
So first of all, you need to make sure that both your QNAP and your workstation is on the same IP net, as well as on private address space
Please confirm above
Hi yes, both are on the same IP/subnet. my server is and the laptop I am using with a Chrome browser is .
I have been using this local IP address for 4 years with no issues with Plex how is this a public IP address I am confused I have used this IP range to avoid using the standard 192.168.1…
When not using private address space or loopback address, PMS will not claim!
Also, if behind a firewall, you will have problems accessing websites/services that has that official address ![]()
When said, check out Installation | Plex Support (Search for On another network )
Or as an alternative, upload this script to your QNAP, and run it:
https://github.com/ukdtom/ClaimIt/releases/download/V1.1.0.0/claimpms.sh
With above, when asked for an IP Address, use 127.0.0.1
Edit: And avoiding using the std. is not advised, since the std. is not routed on the internet
You legends all of you, thank you.
Am I an idiot or what with my IP address all changed now and the Plex server is back.
Can I say a massive thank you to all of you for taking the time to help someone as stupid as me.
