Can't get PlexConnect to work

  • ATV2 or ATV3?: ATV3

  • Your ATV firmware version (found under the ATV settings > general > about > Apple TV software): 5.2.1 (6025)

  • The DNS server set on the ATV (found under the ATV settings > general > network > DNS): 192.168.1.5

  • The device and operating system (including version number) that PlexConnect is installed on: HP Pavillion laptop, Windows 7 64 bit

  • The local IP address of the device that PlexConnect is installed on: 192.168.1.5

  • The device and operating system (including version number) that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on: HP Pavillion laptop, Windows 7 64 bit

  • The local IP address of the device that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on: 192.168.1.5

  • Where your media is stored (e.g. internal drive) External Hard Drive

  • The PlexConnect version number (or if using Github source then a time and date of download; look at the creation date of the folder): June 8 2012

  • A detailed description of the issue (the clearer you can make this the better): When I go to the trailers app and click it, it says "Accessing Trailers" and loads, after a few minutes it says "Trailers is unavailable.  Try again later."

In the settings.py did you make the default server to be 192.168.1.5? It's not in the setup instructions but it failed to resolve to my server. Once i set the default to my servers ip address it worked.

I changed it to 192.168.1.1 in notepad because that was the number on the Appletv before I changed it, just like the directions say.

you two are mixing IP of PMS and DNS Server...

- if GDM is working ("servers discovered: 1"), there is no need to set the IP_PMS

- the DNSServer is the one you might want to change (8.8.8.8), but really - it is only a might, no must.

Thanks for the reply Baa.  Sorry I'm not really tech saavy, but I'm still not sure what I need to do next.

Good question, log doesn't show much. How about you firewall?

I set a rule for python, but again who knows if I even did it right.

Do you want to take a screenshot of the rule details?

What firewall are you running?

![post-142368-0-54064500-1370710952.png|690x472](upload://pfwS1Qce4Jn8fhzCnhFUq9zRReb.png)

Unfortunately that does not tell me what the rule is.

Can you try temporarily disabling the actual firewall and testing PlexConnect again?

How would I go about temporarily disabling the firewall?

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows7/turn-windows-firewall-on-or-off

That works!  Now what to do about setting up the firewall?  Also, some files aren't showing up like my home videos or tv shows.  I noticed in my movies folder, only the movies that are not in a folder are showing up.  Should I start a new thread for this issue since the first issue is solved?  Thanks again!

HOLD OFF ON THAT, YOU MAY HAVE JUST SOLVED AN ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN STUMPING US! oops shouting

So any update on what to do with the firewall?  I can't have that turned off for a long period of time can I?

Turn it back on and create a inbound rule for Python on port 80.

Maybe I'm not doing it right, but it's doesn't work with firewall turned on.  I go to Windows Firewall>Advanced Settings>Inbound Rules![post-142368-0-92551300-1370738990.png|690x368](upload://5eYScnsw7uxOXghvg1DM9q4E7M9.png)

Can you click on te properties for te rule please and post screenshot.

I do not think you have added a rule correctly for python.exe.

Have a look on Google to see tutorials on how to add an .exe exception rule.

You currently have no path referencing the exe.
